捉妖物语 Monster Girl

捉妖物语/Monster Girl is a 'find the difference' adult content game that is both short and poorly done. The game starts out in Japanese and you have to figure out how to switch it to English, only to have half the game still in Japanese, (instructions, free play, etc). I don't know if it's the writing or the translation, but the story barely makes any sense and some of the dialogues are just outright funny and wrong. Some of the differences are very small and hard to spot, needing to be clicked on pixel perfect for it to register. As if they 'find the difference' aspect of it wasn't bad enough as is, all the girls dialogues are unskippable and super slow. Somehow the DLC didn't install itself properly when I installed the game, so I had to install it and have half the gallery locked because I didn't complete the game with the DLC on. The adult content was mediocre at best: it's interactive, but you have tons of Visual Novel-like dialogues throughout the whole thing, the sounds are super repetitive and the same royalty-free (or what sounds like it) songs plays during the entire scenes. Do you like They Live? Well, here you have a similar theme, just in a monster girl form. They're all anime girls, and they all want one thing from you. Are you interested in what it is? I don't like to tease needlessly, so I'll just dispel the mystery... in a minute or two. First, though, I'll focus on the meat of this title. It is a spot-the-difference type of puzzle, where you use a special mirror to reveal what's hidden. It is a unique way to present the well-established puzzle type. There are only 5 stages to tackle, and they're all preceded by a short story section. There seems to be one continuous plot, but the horrible English translation makes it very difficult to comprehend most of it. The difficulty hovers between easy and moderate, and there are free hints in case you need assistance. It sure does not take much to reach the finish line. Now, as you might gather, the length of this game is probably the most conspicuous detriment to the overall quality, as I did not mention much in terms of negatives. Everything ends before the sense of enjoyment has any chance to seep in. I honestly wish the experience was longer, as I found enough value here to justify the time spent…
