About Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock
You're a lone engineer stranded on a hostile alien planet, tasked with repairing your crashed ship while uncovering what destroyed the wreckage of a far more advanced vessel already there. Solve environmental puzzles, piece together the mystery of who—or what—is picking off survivors, and race to escape before you become the next casualty in this fully voice-acted sci-fi thriller.
And if the situation weren't dire enough, the only signs of life on the planet are the remains of a much larger and better equipped ship and her crew, all dead, and not by natural means. What--or who--brought down these ships and is killing their crews? For what reason? And can Powell find a way off-planet before he shares the same fate?

The game was pretty alright! It felt like those side quests you would stumble upon in Mass Effect, except you are playing as the crew that has something strange terrible happen to them. I do have some complaints, like the piece needed for the ventilation was hard to find since I didn't notice it appearing and ran around trying to craft everything in my inventory. Then there was the voice acting, the voices themselves are fine but I think the interactions between powell and novak has room for improvement. I think the game is fine if you're getting it on sale like I did. It's short and sweet, cool atmosphere, and an interesting story. Although I hope that there might be a sequel or something to answer some questions or expand the story.
A really great reimagining of an early internet flash game. I remember playing a long time ago, and while it is as intriguing and entertaining as it was back in 2009, there are some things I wish they kept. For one, the original Voice actors are just much better. And two, while the music is enjoyable in this game, that old Morningstar background music really sets the atmosphere for this small point and click adventure. You are missing the sauce, even with the additional story and animations. Sorry to say.
I loved this game when it was free on Kongregate. So when I was watching a streamer and the beginning scene started I was like "hey this looks familiar" and immediately stopped the video so I could see if I could replay it. In short, nostalgia made me get it and I had just as much fun replaying it as when I first found the game years ago. I didn't encounter any bugs this time, but I do remember having a few when it was on kongregate, so just a heads up on that. also the voice acting is a little awkward but it just gives it more charm in my opinion.
It was nostalgic playing this again so many years after I played the flash version. It works great on Steam Deck. The inventory system can be annoying when combining objects sometimes.
I remember when this was just a quaint little flash game, and now seeing it on Steam is like a proud proud parent seeing their kid graduate(after learning about it 10 years later...)! I couldn't be happier to play it again, and seeing it have some new bells and whistles attached was a pleasant and welcome surprise on top of that! While not particularly long(especially if you've already played it long ago) nor overly complicated like some point-and-clicks can be, Morningstar is like a tall glass of cool water going down a sore throat: it may go down quick, but that time is smooth and refreshing. The game is pretty straightforward in its gameplay and puzzle-solving, and I doubt you'll find yourself getting lost with what to do next as those steps are pretty well telegraphed with each piece of the puzzle you pick up throughout. The strongest point of the game has to be the creative worldbuilding, which has stuck with me the most after all this time. What the game does explore with the world and its circumstances will leave you with questions, but also plenty of interpretable answers for you to fill in the gaps with yourself. It's a creative sci-fi environment they've built here, o…
I want to say it's a cute little point & click but that'd be a misnomer since the astronaut corpses and inhospitable alien desert don't exactly work with "cute". However, it is certainly charming in its own way and I enjoyed what was there quite a bit. It is not long, not long at all, and the asking price of $10 might be a tad high. I'd certainly recommend getting it on sale, but if you like short sci-fi stories or just want a decent way to spend a couple hours this is certainly worth playing. My biggest gripe, beyond the short length, is probably that the protagonist has such a dull and humourless voice. It's not offensive, it just lacks life as though he's reading from cue cards. The only other person you speak to is the wounded captain, who I thought for sure was dead as a doornail but shockingly survives the crash seen in the game's introduction. Unlike Powell, I think that's the player character's name, Novak actually sounds like a guy who is incapacitated and can't believe his only hope of salvation is someone who doesn't care for him. There is not a lot of meat story-wise, and as already said the protagonist is about as dry as toast, but I was genuin…
