About Mukuro no Rasen

Mukuro no Rasen is a Japanese dark fantasy rogue-lite action game with one-stick, one-button controls. The player gains power with each death, opening up new paths to confront their cursed destiny!STORYIt is the time of the warring states. Demons rise from beneath the earth, invading a castle and the surrounding town, transforming them into a warped, monstrous fortress. In order to save his captured master, the ninja Rasen makes a pact with a malevolent force and bargains away his mortal soul to obtain power beyond that of any ordinary man. However, that power is a curse. Unless Rasen continues to consume the dregs of the souls of demons and people who have lost their humanity, he cannot remain in the mortal world. To survive his pact, he must eventually turn his blade against even those who were once his allies. Can Rasen fulfill his duty to his master with his tainted power? Caught between fealty and a cursed fate, Rasen's lonely struggle begins.GAME CONTENTThe player must ascend the walls of a tower, and confront the demon lord that awaits at the top. Unique gimmicks enable rapid movement: Jump Zones allow you to travel great distances in a single bound; Flip Zones let you rapidly phase through platforms. Automated attacking allows you to focus on strategic positioning, moving around the tower surfaces in all directions as you enjoy high-speed, stylish action! In addition, players can use the gold and silver they find to buy permanent equipment improvements and a range of different arcane techniques on each run. With repeated play and new equipment, foes that once seemed unbreakable will eventually fall before your might!A STAR-STUDDED CASTMukuro no Rasen is brought to you by Kohji Kenjoh, a director with a long history of idiosyncratic action games such as the Custom Robo series.Enjoy sound and music from Norihiro 'Nakayama Raiden' Furukawa of ZUNTATA fame, and Sean Bialo from the breakout hit Donut Dodo. Switch between two banger soundtracks at any time!

Simple controls with a fair progression of difficulty. Shuffling between platforms and collecting power up just to survive a bit farther leads to a fun gameplay loop.

Pretty solid roguelike, would be great with a Steam Deck. Just keep in mind actions are done with one button, and you don't attack enemies directly. It's more about dodging attacks and positioning than anything else. There are better reviews than this one, but it's a fun game that I would recommend.

UPDATE: The more I play, the more I love this game, it is leagues better than any survivors game! Plus the soundtrack is stuck in my head. GOOD JOB DEVS and Musicians! TLDR: Buy it if you like arcade-y vampire survivors type of games, but you want to see something more than a copy-cat. Positives: - Unique take on the move & auto-fire genre (i.e. Vampire Survivors); very cool version of it with lots of movement, timing decisions and even a bit of grappling hook for good measure. - Two BGMs, good stuff that pairs well with the mood and action on screen. - Addictive so far and BIG points for just letting you play the damn game immediately with NO filler NO fluff and NO BS tutorial (if you don't want it that is). Negatives: - NONE! I thought the upgrades were lame, but then they expanded them a bit; learning the game more also helped me appreciate the upgrade system more than when I had initially written this review.
