Murder is Game Over Game Review (Disclaimer - This is just my opinion and may be unpopular or disliked.) (General) 1. This is a pixel art detective style video game. 2. The game is about being a detective on a murder case and involves solving puzzles. (Positive) 1, The game is short and even multiple playthroughs can be played in one sitting. 2. The pixel art and in game music works well together and gives it the nostalgia of old games. 3. The story is done well, ties itself together well, and kept you entertained until the end. 4. The characters all have diversity and add to expanding the game well without feeling like you are having the same convesations in questioning a person that just looks different. 5. The game has effort put in and it really does show even though it is pixel art, which doesn't bother me, but I know some people are all about graphics, etc. (Negative) 1. For some people, the game being pixel art can be a turn off. 2. People might enjoy a more psychological detective game, where this is very light (as in not graphic or complex in a psychological way) and sometimes cartoony. A fun little mystery game. Part whodunnit, part treasure hunt. You can expect to finish it in less than 2 hours.

This is a fun, albeit flawed, little game (took me a bit over an hour to complete). The story is a bit too linear, with no red herrings and little extra detail about the characters or setting. The BGM also drove me nuts. But it is still an impressive undertaking for a solo dev in a relatively short length of time. Frankly, I also respect him for NOT including a "pet the dog" mechanic in a time when they're so de rigueur. (There is a pet the cat achievement - and I mistook the cat in question for a Pomeranian - but even that's pretty minimal.) Cleo liking poutine, and especially her favorite recipe if you get all 30 doggie bags, is a fun nod to Scooby-Doo. And she DOES deserve a treat.

Cute quick game. If you ever want to kill an hour, it is well worth the price even when full priced.

The Murder is Game Over series is amazing. While the first certainly is a little rough around the edges, it is a true detective game that showcases wonderful investigation, deduction, and piecing thungs together. One thung i particularly like about the full series is the whodunit aspect - you could find out who did it earlier if you follow all the clues. Each game does this particularly well.

I wish the developers would give the option to use WASD instead of arrow keys (changing characters could be C for change instead of S for switch) or even better, keymapping. Also, the map is nearly unreadable with tiny neon text on a black background. And there's sooo much empty space to wander around in search of doggy bags. Nevertheless, I enjoy interviewing all the characters and solving the mystery at the end, and for only $5 I think it's a worthwhile way to spend a few hours.
