Nanoscape VR

I was getting variable frame rates with an average of about 25 frames per second on my RTX 3080. I can't recommend any game or app that runs this poorly. Shame because this seemed interesting in theory, plus it's free.

You have a flashlight, you teleport around, frenetic jiggling proteins dance to the horizon. Also skyscraper size cucumbers shrink into the ground, and pits open up and gobble pink wiggling aliens. Music is tinkling and fits well. You might want to look at this for 3 minutes but nothing to do here for longer. I read the eLife science article "Nanoscape, a data-driven 3D real-time interactive virtual cell environment" and they did an amazing job assembling a vast array of science data about the molecular environment outside a cell surface. Amazing work, but you won't understand any of it through Nanoscape VR unless you read the article first. Nanoscape VR is worth a brief look. It would benefit greatly from adding some forms user interaction as they admit in the article. I also tried the desktop Nanoscape app which had more detail but less immersion as expected -- overall very similar, although the VR is more likely to intrude in my nightmares. I thought I already reviewed this! Ah, but I did. Nanoscape VR is a copy + paste of Nanoscape, which is not a game. This is a VR exclusive version of the non-game, because in line with the Ig Noble hopefuls at UNSW not understanding the difference between things which are games and things which aren't, they didn't have the technical capacity to just add a VR option to the existing Nanoscape non-game, so decided to pollute the Steam games section with yet another non-game to cover up their inadequacy. Since the developers of this non-game seem happy to copy + paste their non-games onto Steam, I'm sure they won't mind me copying and pasting my review for Nanoscape. Why is this not a game? Because it's an academically inclined 3D landscape intended to demonstrate cellular anatomy of a cancer cell. I can't really vouch for the authenticity or usefulness of this demonstration in terms of cellular biology, as my major was computer science.
