Nighthawks

Very mixed review on this one: I'm a huge VtM fan and really wanted to love it, and I do in parts. But the whole is something I struggle to recommend at full price in its current form. The Good: The writing is mostly excellent and the art is suitably gothic and skilfully done. The music leans slightly generic but is effectively atmospheric. Aesthetically, this game has a lot going for it. A lot of the stories are fun to read through and understand the assignment of being modern Gothic horror. If I were reviewing this game as a linear visual novel, I'd say that it was great. The Bad: But this game doesn't advertise itself as a visual novel: it has the loftier ambition of being an RPG. And as an RPG, this game is often extremely frustrating to play. There is very little in terms of clear choice in your starting stats, meaning you need to restart the game a bunch of times, using trial and error, until you've worked out which of the choices in character creation actually give you the stats that you want, and tough ♥♥♥♥ if that clashes with the roleplay fantasy you had in mind. You want to be a former professional sneak thief captured by The Warrior and taught how to 'conduct yoursel…

Wonderful game. Well worth waiting 7 years as a Kickstarter backer.

Vampire fiction isn't really my thing. It doesn't hold any special appeal to me... But I played this game because I trust Wadjet Eye as a publisher and the developer seemed cool online. I decided to give this game a chance and... I'm damn glad I did. It was amazing. It was terrific. Amazing writing, amazing art, amazing music... Character building, intrigue, suspense, a little horror, your choices matter... Literally what more could you want in a game? It's incredibly replayable, and lots of fun. I had a hard time tearing myself away. I stayed up until almost midnight because I was so invested in trying to save someone. The game really got its hooks in me, which seems apropos. It's a great game. You will have fun playing it... and it's an incredible bargain. Even at full price on release, the game is worth probably twice what it's listed at.

Have you humans seen the ART in this game? The art - OMG, it's so awesome!

I wasn't sure how well I'd get on with a text-first game, but I bought on day 1 because WEG has never let me down. I'm glad I did: you quickly start to find richness, in worldbuilding, in game mechanics, in narrative, clear through the deceptively simple UI. Learning the city's ebbs and flows feels real, through decaying backdrops, the struggles and motivations of the colourful people you meet. Threads of intrigue are woven into that process until they paint pictures of their own, to be picked at and unravelled. "Interactive fiction" feels reductive; Nighthawks carries the term further than I thought plausible.

This game is really good from the 1st minute! Edit: Another fellow reviewer said "its a good interactive vampire fiction" - Yes it is and its mroe than that. Its a modern remake of gamebooks! With really beautiful art accompanying the text Awesome RPG VAMPIRE WHOLE GAME IS VOICE NARRATED
