I will say this: this is pretty much exactly what I'd expect a game based on a relatively unknown but recent license made by a shmup studio in a genre they don't normally work on to play like. This game has extremely smart system design where nearly everything has a purpose and contributes to a pretty fun flow of combat, but the actual controls and animations have a lot of stiffness and weight to them even when you can cancel (which you can't about half the time; though that commitment isn't really an issue). The rail shooter sequences despite being played on analog sticks flow pretty well and reward target priority since you can only destroy environmental aspects with guns and your slash is your best way to defend yourself from projectiles. My biggest issue is honestly Stages 6 & 7; I was giving this game so much benefit of the doubt for the first 5 stages (even when a stage immediately started with you getting hit with half your health bar worth of bullets if you don't instantly start moving and then you have to face a bunch of bosses and sequences a second time just to pad the midpoint of the game) but the "maze" aspect of Stage 6 is just not well done at all and loaded with ene…

A very jank but uncompromising and fun 2D character action game from G.Rev., with their signature slick 3D graphics and synth-infused soundtracks. Honestly the story in this game kinda sucks, I hadn't heard about the Ninja Kamui anime before playing this and I don't think I''ll care to watch it now, but narrative is probably not why you're here, and the cutscenes/tutorial can be auto-skipped for a smoother experience. Also the highest difficulty is available from the start, more of this please game developers! As a revival of classic 2D ninja games that seem to have become a trend since this game came out, I genuinely think this game is better than both Ninja Gaiden Ragebound and Shinobi Art of Vengeance from a pure gameplay perspective. All of Tsukumo's movement and attack options have strengths and weaknesses that you need to understand and respect throughout the game. Solid, combat-oriented side-scroller with a time-bomb gimmick that grows on you as you learn to play it. It defaults to Easy; do yourself a favor and set it to Normal at least. I find myself agreeing with most reviews; it's got jank and repetition in level design late in the game, but the core gameplay system is so solid that I looked past all that. I know I'll play it some more in the future. It's a shame that it went completely unnoticed; it's a solid B-tier action game from arcade veterans G.Rev.
