Nursery Slime offers an engaging RPG with a charming story about a washed-up adventurer and the slime companion who joins his journey, featuring character-driven narrative and satisfying progression. However, players report significant technical issues including window freezing during gameplay, poor performance, tedious menu navigation, and questionable design choices like forced slow movement when tired, all of which detract from the experience. Additionally, some players express discomfort with how the game portrays the slime character's appearance despite her humanoid form.
✦ Overview
Nursery Slime is a surprisingly deep RPG that mixes light simulation, a strong narrative bond between characters, and a slow but satisfying climb from “nobodies” to respected adventurers. Don’t be fooled by the cute name — this is one of OTAKU PLAN’s most well-rounded games.
✦ My Experience
The protagonist is no longer a young hero — now just a washed-up man trying to make ends meet. While on a desperate mission, he’s saved by a mysterious slime who decides to follow him. Eventually, she takes on a human form for convenience, and from there, their journey together begins. They rise through the adventurer ranks by completing quests, battling monsters, and slowly building their bond. What starts as a simple premise becomes an emotional, well-paced story, with solid progression and endearing character growth.
✦ Gameplay
The core gameplay loop revolves around daily missions to earn money (and pay rent!), with the goal of raising your guild rank by clearing key quests. But there’s more depth: The slime can’t level up through combat. Instead, she must be fed specific items at night, each of which boosts different stats. I was enjoying it, but they kept drawing attention to how young-looking the slime girl looks, even though I was trying to squint past that...1 found this helpful

I don't want to give a down arrow necessarily, I'm only in the tutorial part of the story, haven't seen more of it... but the problem is in the tutorial section. The window keeps freezing, I click buttons and it makes sounds like I am opening menus and doing things, but the window itself remains frozen, just the window of the game. Kind of hard to see the rest of the game when this has happened 3 times already. I don't know if it's something to do with Steam themselves? I have noticed some similar things with other games such as Battle Block Theater if the screen is fullscreen for too long, window turns white not just freezing. So I don't know if it needs tinkering and tuning or what, but currently I'm, not capable of playing it.
3/5 Toris' route is lackluster as hell.
A basic retro rpg that seemed interesting enough but the game runs so bad and has some serious questionable elements. The menus are a pain to just navigate through, constantly makes you go through the same options over and over just to get to your skills. The developer made a system where you will get tired in a dungeon and walk at basically a crawl to get through it. Why would anyone think that was a good idea? Make the characters tired in battle or something, not make the dungeon crawl even more of a drag. I wanted to finish this but I'm very quickly losing any interest in doing so.
