About Obscula

Obscula is a first-person psychological horror game that drags players into the depths of the mind, blending psychological terror with an oppressive atmosphere. Forgotten memories, distorted realities, and an overwhelming sense of dread lurk in every shadow. As you search for the truth, you must face the horrors that hide within the walls of this forsaken place.

Story:

You were once a servant in this house, but your past is nothing but a blur. Trapped within its decaying halls, you are haunted by eerie whispers, shadowy figures, and fragmented memories. Someone doesn’t want you to remember. But before you can uncover the truth, you must confront the illusions that cloud your mind. This house is not what it seems. Behind each door lies more than just a room—it holds echoes of the past, watching, waiting. You must question everything you see, for every step forward may lead you closer to the truth… or deeper into madness.

Gameplay:

  • Atmospheric Horror: A slow-burning fear that lingers in every corner—Obscula builds tension through psychological dread rather than cheap jump scares.
  • Bone-Chilling Sound Design: Every whisper, every creak, and every distant footstep reminds you that you are never truly alone.
  • Story-Driven Exploration: Gather fragments of the past through environmental storytelling and unravel the dark truth hidden within the house.

"Obscula" is a low key asset flip, a bunch of other people's assets assembled badly to make a basic game. Typically this kind of thing is done by amateur developers without sufficient budget, talent and/or staff to do the job of game development professionally. It's then quickly rushed into Steam Direct. And, unsurprisingly, this never results in a product with any quality, interest, or value for gamers. This is a pretty bog standard asset flip, a first person horror adventure game where you wander around the spooky house asset, solve some puzzles, get crappy jumpscares from a ghost asset... yawn. There are thousands of these on Steam (because they're easy for unskilled amateur developers to kitbash out of Unity or Unreal) and they're all terrible. This is slightly worse than most. So the visuals might look halfway decent at first glance, if mismatched looking in places. But that's only because the "developer" is using other people's assets. When a dev is too lazy or untalented to make their own art, they usually aren't capable of competent coding or game design either. That is exactly the case with this mess. The game is quite short, and can be run through in just 30 minute…

It wasn't scary.

The moments that should be scary don't scare, and the gameplay drags on slowly. After a few minutes, you just want to turn it off.

I am a big fan of the horror walking sim genre of games. This one is not one of them. It was far too hard to see anything, with no brightness setting either. Oh and about the settings, go ahead and change them... the changes do not persist and just revert back to default. No story. The couple jumpscares I saw were comical at very best. Ended up getting stuck on the numpad puzzle (which you had to single click the first digit then the next digits you have to double click the button for it to work). It is obvious what you have to find in the room and read exactly what this item is representing to you, but every which way you could conceive what the numbers are, none of them worked. Not worth your money or your time until the developer does some serious work to this project.
