absolutely brutal difficulty & rubberbanding be aware
Off-Road (the version included as a free DLC) Is one of the games of my childhood. I'm happy Zoom finally brought this game back but I wish the controller implementation was real and not a Steam Input keyboard wrapper because it's very hard to steer the cars correctly this way. I had to return it because of that. Although it is never mentioned this game is controller compatible, it does mention it is mostly playable with the Steam Deck. it does works pretty well but it is definitely not the best way to play it.
Bought this because of its association with Redneck Rampage. I'm not particularly well versed in racing games, all I know is that I'm judging this based on Burnout being one of my favorite franchises and having endured Big Rigs Over The Road Racing enough to understand that it hardly qualifies as a game. I didn't enjoy playing this and that is purely based on preference and not because of technical issues. There was competency put in to making this, it's just not my speed. Clearly I didn't grow up with this and I'm not the target audience. If you're either you'll probably get more out of it than I did.
Janky but fun 2001 racing game, enjoyed it quite a bit. Huge thanks to the publisher for the review copy. Here's my honest opinion about Off-Road: Redneck Racing : - Physics are pretty wacky, especially during collisions. It’s better to focus on driving than try to play aggressively. That said, I love how bouncy the cars get after jumps or slopes. - The game runs at a low native resolution, but you can easily fix that with dgVoodoo (or follow the HD tutorial in the guides, though it’s more complex). Running at higher resolutions can cause occasional stuttering, which I haven’t been able to fix yet. - The difficulty is brutal, especially in Championship mode. One mistake and the CPU will catch you instantly. - Track variety is solid. The downhill races are a highlight: fast, dangerous and somehow forgiving if you crash. - Good vehicle selection, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. - Graphics look decent, especially at higher resolutions. - The soundtrack is great if you’re into bluegrass. Just remember to enable it in the advanced options, since the volume is set to 0 by default for some reason. - The random redneck soundbites that play through the races can get a bi…
A great time waster.....
