About Open Brush

Open Brush allows you to paint in 3D space with XR. Unleash your creativity with three-dimensional brush strokes. Your canvas is open around you. Your palette is your imagination. Your inspiration is everywhere.

Your freedom comes the moment you move your head to one side, and see your strokes from a different perspective.

From here, Open Brush will treat you to a palette of 48 different brush types, freed from the bounds of typical painting media. Fire, water, smoke and light beams are just a selection of the wonderful brushes you’ll find. A large selection of environments will find you floating in space, creating costumes, or enjoying a snowy walk.

Anything is possible in Open Brush. Transport yourself across the cosmos, or jump through the frames of famous portraits and see what lies beyond. The choice is yours.

Open Brush is the community powered evolution of Tilt Brush from Google, originally developed by Skillman & Hackett.

How did I not know about this before? First, this isn't really a "serious 3D modeling" package. It also isn't really a toy. It's an art thing first and foremost... that exports 3D models. This means that they're going to be pretty first and optimized, well not at all. That, however, is okay. The vertices it exports are what I'd call "predictable spaghetti," and can be pretty handily cleaned up in something like Blender, if that's something you need to do and you have the time for it (or scripts to automate it). From there, the only real limitation is your creativity and your VRAM, which if you have a PC powerful enough for VR, you probably have enough to make something quite nice. Would I recommend OpenBrush? Yes, but with caveats. Blender it is not. It also isn't MudBox or ZBrush. Shapelab is closer to that. OpenBrush is kind of its own thing, but if you're okay with/ready for that, you can make some genuinely cool stuff.

This thing is still updating! Im using it to make quick map models for my game that can be used by my team for better understanding of level mechanics. I dont know if blocks still works but they do mention it in the update as well as voxel files.

I'm sure its great for some people but not for me. I've wasted hours upon hours trying to get passthrough to work. I've changed settings, ive tried Open Brush on two entirely separate platforms (Pico and Steam), I've checked through forums, I've watched videos, I've tried using the Beta version. Passthrough simply doesn't work, theres not even an option for it.
