About Open World Game: the Open World Game

✦ AI summary

Experience the distilled essence of open world games stripped down to their mechanical bones: explore a vast map hunting 400+ pickup icons, level up through a skill tree, and piece together an epic story from journal entries. It's a satirical love letter to open world game tropes that ditches the cinematic fluff and lets you focus on what really matters—pure, unapologetic busywork and fishing.

Open World Game: the Open World Game is the purest open world game experience. We broke open world games down to their core so you don't have to deal with any more gorgeous 3D environments distracting you, stellar voice acting performances drawing you in, or even a prolonged epic Main Quest constantly weighing you down for ignoring it in lieu of collecting every card in that mini game. Just pure unadulterated open world game... game.

✦ AI summary

Open World Game: the Open World Game is a satirical take on open world game design that some players find cleverly amusing and nostalgic, while others feel its critique overstays its welcome and relies on broad strokes rather than targeting specific design flaws. Players appreciate the straightforward parody of icon-clearing and repetitive quest structures, though opinions vary on whether the satire lands effectively against both modern games and beloved classics.

I'm so utterly brainwashed by open world games that I actually had a smile on my face as I played this and fondly remembered doing quests like these before.

Score: 3/5 It's a decent dig against modern game design that stays way past its welcome. That's one of the points it's trying to make, but even if your intent is to be annoying to criticize something or make your argument stronger, you're still being annoying. Also, although it works as criticism against the low quality open world slop on the modern market, it doesn't land its hits against some of my favorite open-world games, so I view it as a straw-man in the context of the high quality games.
