About Orwell's Animal Farm

✦ AI summary

Make decisions as leader of Animal Farm, managing resources, tasks, laws, and propaganda while choosing which animals bear the burden and which gain power. This text-based narrative explores Orwell's classic tale of revolution and corruption through branching choices that can lead to familiar outcomes or entirely new paths shaped by your rule.

All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

In Orwell's Animal Farm, the animals have fought off their exploitative human masters. Now they're in charge. In this text-based choice-driven narrative game you can assign their tasks, manage their resources, choose their laws, and direct their propaganda. Determine which of the animals will make sacrifices and which will be "more equal than others."

George Orwell's 1945 novella was a scathing critique of totalitarianism in the early days of the Soviet Union. Since then, it has spoken to people of many ideologies in countries around the world. It offers a powerful awareness of how power can be abused – and of how generation after generation seeks a more just and equal society, where the many do not suffer at the hands of the few.

Orwell's Animal Farm brings the familiar characters and situations to the medium of a game, and to the context of 2020. Depending on how you play, you may encounter situations very close to those in the book, or others influenced by events Orwell never lived to see.

Play it to explore a classic tale from inside. Play it to try your hand at running the farm – or because you dream of spreading Animalism across the world. Play it because you've always wanted to oversee a construction project by a herd of cows. Play it because Boxer deserved better.

I love Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four and all things related to or written by George Orwell. So of course I had to play the game and I did enjoy it. Even making a Let's Play of it for YouTube. But unless you are a fan like me I would not bother. The choices are limited, the scenes sometimes repeat, and it feels more like a interactive novel than a real game. And sometimes the choices are confusing and don't go where you thought it would go. It needed more development, more testing, and just more.

The game does a great job representing what starting a new form of government is very difficult. When you are not worrying about the humans invading than you dealing with the pigs being corrupt and screwing over the animal farm. Getting a "good" ending is really hard.

I killed Boxer very early on. Later, I was told that Boxer died of his wounds in a battle. I don't know how many paths there are, but they aren't branching very well.

Orwell's Animal Farm successfully transforms one of the most celebrated political novels into an interactive narrative that allows players to influence the course of a revolution instead of simply witnessing it. Developed by Nerial and published by The Dairymen, the game adapts George Orwell's classic satire into a decision-driven experience where every choice affects the future of Manor Farm and its animal inhabitants. Rather than offering a straightforward retelling, it expands upon the original story by introducing branching paths and multiple outcomes, making players active participants in the struggle between equality, leadership, and the corrupting influence of power. The game centers on governance and moral decision-making instead of traditional action or exploration. Following the animals' successful rebellion against human rule, players help determine how the new society is organized. Responsibilities include assigning labor, managing limited resources, settling disputes, influencing public opinion, and deciding how the farm should be governed. Every action gradually shapes the political climate, revealing how difficult it is to preserve noble ideals when faced with pract…
