Ministry of Truth: 1964

I feel bad saying this, but this game is bad on basically every level. Let’s start with premise. The game is an unlicensed adaptation of the novel 1984. It was clearly intended as such from the beginning, was named as such from the beginning, and only changed because the Orwell estate threatened legal action against them (the creator is quite open about this). I don’t know at precisely what stage of writing or development this change occurred. I have to assume it was very late in the stage because the game *still* contains numerous references to verbatim concepts and words from 1984 (Oceania, Eurasia, Eastasia), alongside what are clearly hastily and obviously swapped out concepts (Big Brother -> Great Father). But even this scrubbing is incomplete. An example: the resistance movement from 1984, “the Brotherhood”, has been changed to be called in game dialogue “The Will”. But in at least one case the dialogue still says “the Brotherhood” mid conversation before going back to being called “The Will”. This is just sloppy use of ctrl+f the script to change X to Y. Setting all of that aside, we can generously say the game as it is now is *inspired* by the novel 1984. An homage if you…

Really interesting game! Replayed it a few times already. And the fact that it's from Ukrainian developers is even more reason to support it!

To say that you enjoyed this game would be incorrect. Instead, I appreciate what it does, and how it does it. I was entertained by a few of the puzzles, but I wonder if their completion mattered much in the end. Without giving too much away, this is a very bleak game. I believe that it is meant to teach a lesson more than it is meant to entertain.

[b]I’ve been waiting for this game for more than a year.[/b] This game has been #1 on my wishlist for over a year, so I was really excited to finally play it. And I’m especially happy to support a game made by Ukrainian developers. It makes me really happy to see our people creating such cool content. I finished my first playthrough in about 1.5 hours, following the “loyal to the Party” path. You can replay it with different choices and scenarios, but honestly, I didn’t feel like there was enough content to make me want to replay it over and over. As other people have already mentioned, a lot of the things you do don’t seem to have any visible impact on the story or your stats. There are mini-games and choices, but sometimes you just don’t know what effect they actually had, if any. I really think this game has much more potential. It feels more educational than entertaining, which I completely understand considering the topic, but I still left the game with mixed feelings.

It's Ok, but not more than that. Since it's not particularly expensive I can recommend it, but I'd still see if you can wait for a sale. It's based on Orwell's 1984 even though they had to change the game's title. It gives you the flavor of the book and living in a dystopian nation where the state is constantly attempting to manipulate what its citizens believe. If you're familiar with the book, there really aren't any surprises here. It's also on the short side and although the Developers say that there are multiple endings, I didn't see much difference while a third of the way through a second playthrough. I might return to it later but I decided that there didn't seem to be enough reason to bother continuing. Still, for one playthrough, it's kind of timely.
