Our Town Hero

Backed this game on Kickstarter but it feels like a scam. Game looks nice (mostly) but the gameplay is just about as bad as it gets with no attempt to improve it. You get a no cost move at lv2 that is better than anything else in the game and will win any fight so why even have combat? Encounters are every 3-5 steps (no exageration). There is a story but it is not interesting. There is a love interest, but they are not interesting. There is combat, but it is not interesting. The developer (Solohacker) spends more time advertsing their other (presumably half baked) games in an attemt to take more money from backers than they do actually finishing their game. Do not buy their games

This game is far too quick for my liking, the plot is shallow, the amount of actual impact you have is ridiculously low, and the battles come hot and heavy (I got one averaging every 3 to 4 steps). The battles themselves were not complex, just use the same ability over and over. A bot could have run this game as well as I, and gotten the exact same result.

A fun little romp through a snack sized adventure. Couple minor issues, typos here and there, and Plot Anomalies, but overall fun to chill and relax to. The only big annoyance I found was near the end where there's a Map Area ya fight through on the way to the Final Battle and there's two spots on it that ya can step on and get TKO'd into a Game Over with no warning, logical reason why it's happening, ability to see it coming, or defense against it, and this feels cheap, unfair, and unfun. (Especially if ya get caught out at not having manual saved lately and lose significant progress. Don't skimp on your Manual Save Frequency in this game.) Hopefully this is a Game Design oops that's learned from and not repeated in the future. I regret nothing about Kickstarter Pledging to this game. I will fondly remember Callie's adventure through the Kingdom of Stoogery to save the Town of Vampsbane. ;)

Let's me start by letting you know that the pixel art is charming, if inconsistent (sometimes a sprite looks like good snes work, sometimes bad snes work, and then sometimes it looks like nes work instead), and the music is top notch - really chill, really great - I cannot say enough nice things about it. But really, thats where all the nice words end, and as someone who backed the game, I swear that either that is where ALL the money went, or this was a scam game (something finished or mostly so at first, and then pushed onto Kickstarter to grab as much cash as possible. Why - everything else here is amazingly shallow, it feels like the start of early EA, or like a demo you give publisher only to show the bare bones - a horizontal slice or sorts. Even putting it that way would be putting it too nicely, and it goes beyond that too. For example(s), there are even character close up images for the dialogue box that don't load, so you just get black silhouettes. As well, you have no door in some places, just arrows pointing at a wall, or bars pasted over a wall but somehow your character is talking through bars AND a wall to people on the other wise who don't even run across t…

I've only played through it once so far, but I enjoyed my time spent on it. I am one of the Kickstarter backers that has backed every game since I found Neopunk, and enjoyed every game so far. This game is worth a look, and you'll get enjoyment out of it for a while, as these games are short.

I have backed a lot of kickstarter games in my days but this has to be one of the most disappointing unfortunately. It seems like a lot of care went into the art style and almost nothing else. The combat was poorly balanced with most enemies dying in one turn and then giving the same experience as every other mob. There was not really anything to differentiate mobs between each other outside of sprite and name. And boy howdy will you see a lot of them because the encounter rate is high. Also the only treasure in the game is money so that you can purchase healing items that I never seemed to need and stat upgrades that were super expensive. I tried to turn in a quest after beating the boss and it the npc who had given it to me had left town so I was stuck with 10 items i could not turn in. All in all, its pretty, its cute but it is not a very good game.
