Story
Rise of the Village Hero is a lighthearted indie RPG set in the charming Kingdom of Dobroja. Play as Guy, a hunter who returns home to find his village, Warlington, under attack by orcs and goblins. Fight to protect your home, uncover the cause of the chaos, and restore peace by exploring diverse lands, interacting with factions, and completing quests. Discover treasures, brave dungeons, and become the hero Dobroja needs! Difficulty
Rise of the Village Hero offers a fair challenge. You start as a hunter facing an orc army — a fight you’re not yet prepared for. The game has a learning curve, so use health and stamina potions wisely, upgrade gear when you can, and avoid rushing into large enemy groups. Save often, as the game features permanent death, and use the quick save function to avoid losing progress. Movement is click-to-move, and the camera may take some getting used to — you’ll sometimes need to scroll up or zoom in to navigate around high obstacles.Features of my game:

Unlocked after the first tutorial quest, this skill deals damage to nearby enemies. It can be upgraded to level 5 by purchasing from shops and is best used when surrounded. Equip it via the quick action bar.
Healing ability: Healing chant Use the Healing Chant to recover health. It consumes stamina and has a cooldown. Upgradeable to level 10, it can be purchased from shops, earned as a quest reward, or found in the world, offering players different ways to heal.Dialogues, quests and leveling up:NPC interactions are lighthearted, funny, and sassy, adding charm to the game, with serious moments for balance. The story is enriched through quests, dialogue, and the main theme of protecting your home and country.Inventory management and shops:Find a variety of loot throughout the world—dropped by enemies, hidden spots, or quest rewards. This game is so self aware, riddled with humour, and has an interesting and very classic RPG story style! Like the blessed offspring of Runsecape and Neverwinter Nights - I have had a lot of fun so far, and im only at the end of Chapter 1! The Dev is a team made of ONE MAN, doing everything himself including voicing - and I am really impressed at what one man can achieve when he has a vision. Obviously, updates are still coming out, and things get patched and fixed and added regularly - so some bugs and glitches may occur, but nothing game breaking for me so far which is great. The weapons have fun names and stories added to them, some little jokes in there too which is really refreshing! It plays smoothly and simply, has a forgiving shopping and upgrading curve, and the dungeon delving feels organic -- just remember as the enemies scale up to chug those potions like you are Geralt of Rivia and dehydrated! The Dev is great with taking on feedback too, which is AWESOME for a dev these days, and you can submit feedback at any time in game with F12. I started doing a full Let's Play series of this game and I'm loving it so far. It seems to draw inspiration from games like Diablo, Torchlight, RuneScape and others. It's still in early access so I'm very excited to see how the game develops!! I have to say the level of jank in the game is strong. I have bought way better games for way less. If this were an early access game, I could recommend this. And, it would be different if ihe gameplay was fun. But, this is a finished game. There is no way I could recommend this game in its current state. I am putting in for a refund.1 found this helpful
Rise of the Village Hero is a charming RPG that keeps things simple yet engaging. The game offers an enjoyable mix of humour, straightforward combat, and a world that feels inviting to explore. The controls are easy to pick up, making it accessible for players of all experience levels. Combat is primarily handled through mouse clicks, with some hotbar abilities available. The fights feel responsive and rewarding, keeping the action engaging without being overly complicated. That said, I did run into some minor frustrations. The inventory system can be a bit clunky to navigate, and the camera occasionally gets in the way, especially in tighter spaces. Another issue I encountered was not knowing how to use certain items, like the bow. There doesn’t seem to be a clear system in place to explain item usage, which can lead to some confusion. However, since I’m still early in the game, it’s possible these are items I’ll be able to use later on. Despite these small issues, the overall experience has been fun. The game’s humour adds a lot to the journey, keeping things lighthearted and entertaining. What’s even more impressive is that this game was developed by a single person.
