panGEMic is a small retro platformer that feels like something I could have found on an old ZX Spectrum. The whole game is built around collecting every gem in a stage while avoiding enemies, hazards and anything else that can kill me. I also have a time limit to worry about, so I cannot just slowly walk around looking for the safest route. It is a very simple idea, but the game gets a decent amount of mileage out of it. What I like most is how quickly the levels get me thinking. I have limited lives, a timer counting down and enemies moving around the screen, so I need to work out a route instead of just reacting to everything as it happens. The screen edges can also warp me from one side to the other, which becomes important in some of the trickier stages. I like mechanics like that because they are simple enough to understand immediately but still give me another thing to consider when I am trying to finish a level. The presentation is probably the most convincing part of the retro theme. The game uses a 16 colour ZX Spectrum style palette and keeps the graphics very simple, which suits the small stages and quick gameplay. The music follows the same idea with five deliberately…

Fun game, but that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ deathless achievement was a pain in the butt, though I"m finally done with that acheivement btw. Also, this game is definitely not casual-friendly, so I do agree if you want an actual relaxing game, this is likely not going to be it for you. But it still can be lot of fun collecting the gems to complete the stages, even if the character moves stiffly (I mean it's a retro-style, pixelated game, so it make sense it'd be like that, so cope, idk.)
