PENGUIN HOTEL -Chapter 1- (2024)

Great game! Some of the text and grammar is...odd, but that could be because it was translated from Japanese. There are some "What am I supposed to do?" moments, but it wasn't too hard. I recommend this game to horror/puzzle fans!

so so much fun such a cool concept going to play 2 right after finishing this one. play it!

PENGUIN HOTEL -Chapter 1- is a strange little horror adventure that caught me off guard because the idea sounds much sillier than the actual game feels. I arrive at a hotel that is celebrating its 18th anniversary, expecting something fairly normal, but things quickly become much more unsettling once the night starts. I have to explore the hotel, figure out what is happening and work my way through a series of puzzles while dealing with some very strange penguin related threats. The whole setting is bizarre, but I think that actually gives the game quite a bit of personality. The best part for me is the Freeze Camera. It is not just a normal camera that I use for looking around. I can actually capture certain objects inside photographs and then use those pictures to solve puzzles or deal with threats. I like this because it gives the game a mechanic that feels different from simply finding keys and opening doors. I have to look at the environment differently and work out what objects can be used with the camera. It also gives the game some light action alongside the exploration, which keeps it from becoming nothing but a walking puzzle game. The hotel itself is also a good settin…

Some interesting ideas, but is janky, slow, and not very fun. It's not funny enough to be 'so bad it's good', it's just dull.
