"Phobos" is pretty disgusting... this P2W cash shop infested "MMO" (basically a playerless 2D top down retro pixel shooter with some lightweight RPG elements that you need to spend cash money on) is a ripoff of fan favourite, Tibia, from the art style right down to map designs and even NPC dialogue has been directly lifted from someone else's game. This is disgusting plagiarism, and the P2W cash shop on that is just insult added to injury. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. Decent enough
The world is too big with too little actual content. It is near hopeless for new players to find places to hunt. The playerbase is non-existen, which makes trading and party content also non existent. The loot system (drops being incredibly rare, taking thousands of kills to get an item) is also very punishing when there is no playerbase to trade with. The game has potential. But do not expect the multiplayer aspect of it.
Hi! Reviews aren't realy my forte, but I believe Phobos deserves a fair one. It's a full MMORPG, old style, with quite a few things that remind you of Tibia. Engine is 100% proprietary, so it's not an OT server. It's also a passion project, with a long development history prior to the steam release. I haven't played that much, but from what I've seen, development is slow but always active. The main theme of the game is exploration. You HAVE to explore. It's the strongest point of the game, and it feels very rewarding. In a few areas, it can be overly convoluted, and I'd consider some sort of teleport, at least a daily one, to get out of spots where you can't find your way back. I'm looking at you, Trordrin! It was a major pain, for instance. Not mandatory, but I came back three times to the starting zone before finding him, and I lost countless hours. Still, exploring is generally great, and you end up creating your own map while you clear fog from the default one, so it really does feel like you are getting to know the world. It's got a lot of "character", dialogues are well written and meaningful. Quests are hard. Since you have to actually write to NPC, I'd steal a bit more…
Very good oldschool rpg inspired by tibia, great quests, lore and unique mechanics and classes. Focuses more on RPG and lore than tibias mindless grinding till infinite, lots of mysteries to solve! Game has come a long way in recent patches from what it used to be, give it a try!
