Phoenix's Faye

There isn’t much to praise about this game, as it feels like a patchwork of freely available, overused graphical assets seen countless times in other titles. The result is a very basic action game plagued by poor optimization and generic gameplay. Upon starting, you choose between two “modes”; each is simply a linear sequence of stages with no actual narrative. Every mode introduces a different character and slightly altered gameplay, but the core mechanics remain largely the same. The first character’s campaign consists of straightforward combat stages where you fight off waves of enemies. Beyond basic movement, jumping, and running, your character can attack in three ways: unarmed, with a bow, or with a katana. Unfortunately, the bow is nearly useless. You have to charge each shot, and many enemies can deflect arrows back at you, dealing heavy damage. The katana is more practical, but combat quickly devolves into relentless button mashing. There’s no sense of strategy or timing, just repetitive attacks that will have your fingers aching after a few minutes. Each stage plays out in an arena where enemies continuously spawn. I love this game but i wish theres option to turn off the xray when you hit the enemy and when enemy down they dont disintegrate

It's ok if you know you're getting a poorly optimized asset flip game. Bunch of generic fanservice women asset packs (no actual adult content) on some generic looking asset pack maps. The actually game play is passable but gets old quickly. Tried it twice separately with the 5070 and 5070 Ti with a 9900x3D for some basic PS3 era graphics. Frame rate is trash. Even the game tags are misleading. This isn't worth 10 USD, maybe 4-5 dollars at the most and I'm glad I got it cheap.

Asset flip beat em up/hack n slash/archer shoot em up that slaps harder than you would expect! Not quite up there with Bloody Spell's combat loop but it is servicible all the same. The developer is honing those programming skills whilst Phoenix Faye is a rock solid foundation built upon enjoyable fundamentals. If decent voice acting and an actual cohesive storyline were added Phoenix Faye would impress a wider audience but I come from the arcade days when fighters and brawlers were not known for their "Shakespearian prose". (I just want to bask in the blood stains, ashes, and burning cinders of my enemies crushed under my feet. This will do nicely!) Enemy waves will challenge you but typically will not overwhelm you. (The main female protagonist Faye can actually heal herself incrementally by doing perfect parries or deflecting arrows.) However, I will say the sword combat dominates over the bow combat and hand to hand combat by leaps and bounds. Unlocking more abilities in those other skill trees may sweeten my soured disposition going forward. I certainly hope so!
