Yu-Gi-Oh but with chess.

"PieceWars" is less of a chess game directly, and more of a lightweight RPG with chess themed turn based tactical combat. That doesn't mean it's a great game, it's not, if you want a rich turn based tactical combat experience, hundreds of other more professionally made RPGs do it better. There's no English translation for the game, but that's okay. The language of bad games is universal. On the important subject of visuals, this features fairly low quality stylised/cartoony low poly 3D graphics. It comes across as the kind of thing you see on mobile phones and Nintendo games, which will deter a lot of PC gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and to be considered one of the best games on Steam, the graphics have to be some of the best on Steam. That's not happening here. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game.
