Pixel Descent

Every now and then I jump back into this game and play a run. There's a thin veneer of causality over the game's fantasy, and it's enough to just let you focus on the game itself. On that note, the gameplay is tight and the soundtrack slaps.

Pixel Descent is a focused action roguelite that takes the familiar idea of repeatedly entering a dangerous dungeon and builds it around fast twin-stick shooting, bullet-hell encounters, permadeath, and gradual permanent progression. Developed and published by Moonskull Games, the game presents a straightforward but fitting premise: the player signs a contract that permanently separates them from the world above and commits them to exploring an abyss filled with remnants and mysteries of an old world. Death is treated as inevitable rather than exceptional, giving the adventure an appropriately grim foundation while making repeated attempts a natural part of the experience. The central gameplay loop revolves around descending through an ever-changing series of hostile environments while trying to survive increasingly overwhelming opposition. Pixel Descent creates much of its tension through the conflict between defending a position and continuing to move. Large groups of monsters can pressure the player into holding ground and controlling an area, but remaining comfortable for too long carries its own dangers. patience pays off. love this asset set. gameplay is decent and the commitment is low. This makes it an easy game to jump back into now and again for a few rounds. Well worth the time.

Ultra fun game . I recommend everyone play this . really good gauntlet clone and finally a good mage for a playable character .

I really wanted to love Pixel Decent, as I played a lot of Gauntlet as a kid. Unfortunately the game just feels clunky and slow. The roguelike power ups feel really minimal, and I never really felt like I got a lot more powerful while the rest of the game got harder with every passing floor. I just did not have a lot of fun with Pixel Descent.
