PizzaBoy

Found this game because Steam recommended it to me as a game releasing soon, and I been a fan of 2D platformers for a while. Decided to finally play it after buying it and letting it sit in my games for a while. And man, this one hit the spot. Simple controls, simple to understand, surprisingly engaging story, and pretty solid level design. The collecting aspect of items was super fun and I am glad the game didn't feel boring. It also strikes a nice difficulty balance, which makes it super accessible for all types of players and the speed of the game is great too. It's a short, yet worthwhile game. Great stuff here!

It's a really cute and fun game! It's got a lot of nice details and good art, also pretty short and easy to get all the achievements for (and an INSANE install size of like 50MB which is really cool). Overall, I'd say I enjoyed the majority of my playtime although there were a bunch of pretty frustrating sections, be it platforming challenges or bosses lmao For example, I got frustrated during [spoiler]the ending X boss battle with Tin, whose movements felt clunky, and it felt unfair to die if you touch her during the cooldown phase, or if you strike her very close to the wall, which makes it tougher to avoid her as she dashes right afterwards, just inches in front of you. I also beat the battle by standing around in specific spots and letting all the projectiles hit the floor in front of me, which I don't think was the intended way for me to do it lmao. I ended up figuring out that I could beat all three sections just by standing there, which made the normal bullets hit the ground in front me, the vertical projectiles not registering any damage upon touching me and also by rendering the flames that came out of the floor when you walk useless since I didn't walk at all. This game has a good story and is worth the money. I would recommend getting the good ending, if you can figure out how.

Man this is just such a damn good platformer. The movement is really smooth and satisfying, especially the wall bounce and ground pound refresh, pairing those 2 together correctly while exploring and dodging enemies can get pretty tense. I'm quite fond of the blue and orange fellows in the pizzaverse. Big recommend if you like old style 2D platformers or just the concept of fun. Good Game!

Very torn on this review, because for much of the game I wasn't very happy with it, but it's got just enough of that special sauce to make me give it a thumbs up. I think the crux of my issue comes down to a few issues with the gameplay. One of them is just stiff controls, always needing to press the down button to recharge your dashes is cumbersome, and makes traversal a bit more frustrating than I'd like. You can really feel it sometimes when you dash to a collectible, forget to press down, jump to head back, then realize since you never pressed down, you just fall to your death. The down button is also real dangerous, I had to switch to dpad sometimes while platforming because even a light tap on down while doing a difficult platforming section will lead to pizzaboy committing to a ground pound and just killing himself. I also had some situations with one block platforms where sometimes I'd dash into the side and bounce up, and sometimes I barely dash too high, dash over them, and fall to my death. Nothing that I couldn't catch eventually, but it felt frustrating in how committal the dash is, despite how unwieldy it can be. The dash bounce also feels a bit shorter than it needs…

Bought this game on a whim. I'll admit, the name, and the vampire chick art had me interested. The progression is nice, and it handles very well! The story was good enough to keep me entertained, and I liked the twists. It's not the easiest game, but I've also played harder. The Good : Catchy tunes, enjoyable characters, solid controls, and fun lore. The Bad : Might be a bit tough for younger players, nothing some play time won't help with. The Ugly : The Pizza (If you know, you know. ;-) ) Now I need to think of whom I want to gift this to...
