Power Tools VR

I would sin for this game

Power Tools VR is less of a game and more of a demo/sandpit where you're stationary by a bench with some tools and there's a big concrete block. You can use the tools to hammer/chip away chunks of the voxel concrete block to make sculptures. This is made slightly easier by the fact the developer didn't bother doing physics properly, but on the other hand that makes this a pretty lousy non-game/demo. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop. Hey this is pretty neat and worth it on sale but not at $10. Basically you have a variety of power tools to select from and a variety of either primitives or voxel based models to choose from, you then use the power tools to remove or add things to the model. So it's essentially a voxel modeling tool where power tools are the brushes, really neat.

We can all agree it’s more fun than cutting your arm off with a chainsaw IRL! The good: It runs smooth and stable, has a handful of neat tools to use, and all the basic features to make it playable. The bad: There’s not a ton of fun here, or challenge/inspiration to keep playing it. I played for 20 minutes, and believe I’ve seen everything it has to offer. Might be a hit for little kids who are big into power tools but can’t play with them IRL. Not a great VR sculpting tool – I have other titles that I prefer for that. Still, I got it on sale for $0.80, and it’s better than a sugary candy bar from the vending machine. I support the devs on a decent attempt to build something neat. Thumbs: UP!
