I watched Nanahira's livestream and found it quite cute and interesting, so I bought the game. Even though I'm not sure if this is the first indie game to use nested control schemes, the game is definitely interesting. But honestly, after a little thought and figuring out the controls, it's actually much simpler than it looks. btw this pixel-style 2D game was actually made using the Unity engine. I'm completely baffled. 8 out of 103 found this helpful
Press Ctrl, developed and published by Idan Rooze, is a minimalist puzzle game that builds an entire experience around a single, deceptively simple idea and then steadily transforms that idea into something far more demanding than it first appears. At a glance, it seems almost barebones—simple visuals, limited inputs, and a straightforward objective—but that simplicity is precisely what allows the core mechanic to take center stage. The game doesn’t rely on narrative or visual spectacle; instead, it challenges the player’s ability to think in layers, to plan ahead, and to execute actions with precision under increasingly complex conditions. The defining concept revolves around nested control. You are not just moving a character—you are controlling a character that controls another character, and sometimes even more layers beyond that. Each of these layers exists within the same space, but they interact in a way that creates a chain of dependency. Every input you make must pass through this chain, and a misstep at any level can disrupt the entire sequence. What starts as a manageable idea quickly becomes a mental juggling act, where you must keep track of multiple perspectives simu…1 found this helpful
unique idea but i suck at this game so this game sucks ngl1 found this helpful
I bought it as a puzzle game. But it taught me that understanding how to do something, doesn't guarantee that you will be able to execute that. And that's very unpleasant. And that sometimes, when the answer isn't working, failure can actually show why your solution is working in your mind, but not in reality itself. That the solution itself might be actually incomplete. Not wrong. Incomplete.
10/10 The first layer in gave me a feeling of control, the second made it funny, the third layer started to get frustrating, and the final layer made me go through all stages of grief in a matter of seconds. Would play again.
angriest i've been in three months, work of art, high rec
