About Project Xenoflora

100% of the plant life on earth was non-sentient, maybe scientists and giant corporations should learn to not mess with the laws of nature.

In Project Xenoflora, you play the world's first biologically created sentient plant. Plants are cool, being able to think it cool, why not just combine those two things? Someone thought it was a good idea, it wasn't. Now there's a mildly dangerous and very angry plant making a mad dash for the exit, the only thing that stands in its way is the near-infinite number of mass-produced robot sentries programmed to destroy it.
  • Burrow, shoot, and... tree?... your way through bullet-hell action in this short roguelike experience.
  • Make use of randomized abilities and combine them to suit your playstyle.
  • Most importantly, the enemies are all robots, the dog is a robot dog, specifically a chlorophyll-thirsty robot dog trying to tear you to shreds. Do not feel bad for the robot dog, it has red eyes its obviously evil.

I think my number of failures had afforded me an experience with each of the available upgrades, which also gave me time to understand that the poison upgrades are instrumental as they allow me to sustain damage around corners and behind walls rather than charging up a shot out in the open. For most strategies I had died on the penultimate level, but with full poison I was able to clear it with full health; ironically the penultimate "upgrade" is just a full heal, but it didn't stop me from tree-hugging the cyber-wall and easily melting through the "adds" with poison shots. The game is a linear Nerve gauntlet blended from twin-stick and bullet hell shooters. Friendly fire is an effortless and exceptional addition that keeps the game feeling balanced on the edge of its own difficulty, but for my taste it could have been taken a step further, perhaps with a flying enemy variant who can only be destroyed from being directly shot down. The resurgence of this style of game in the mid-2000's was predicated on the sticks de twin being of commensurate quality; the ability to move and shoot smoothly and independently was still somewhat new and Geometry Wars accentuated that intuitive simp…

Rough and somewhat buggy. Project Xenoflora is a 2D rogue-like shooter where you, as a plant, must fight robots. While the game is basic, it feels a bit unfinished. Don't get me wrong, the game is enjoyable, I just think it needs a bit more improvement. There are a few bugs where enemies can kill each other (probably intentional) and get stuck in-between walls. Some images also look compressed given that they were stretched to fit the resolution.
