Pyramis

Love the concept for the game, it has some gameplay shortcomings but it was made all by one developer and it's a very solid work. Specially the lore behind it, it's got a very interesting story! There's a fair amount of scares if you are looking for something to jump on your chair off!

The game tries very hard to be Penumbra (get stranded in an underground secret facility in the middle of a snow storm ; blue-tinted night vision ; point and click interaction system...). The atmosphere is there, the "puzzles" too, I guess. And... the 20-year-old graphics, too. However, that doesn't stop the game from running like absolute ass. With an RTX 4060, I had 60 fps in the tutorial room, and the camera felt AWFUL to look around with. Oddly enough the rest of the game runs better than the tiny tutorial room (I think that's because said room must have a ridiculously high number of polygons, looking at the shape of the walls and floor...). Can't even hit 144fps @1080p despite the graphics looking as outdated as they do. If you've got an old rig, you might want to give this game a pass. They put a 1060 as the minimum required GPU, but you'll probably have to lower the resolution a lot in order to run the game at a playable framerate... Overall not a good first impression. I'm currently stuck at a part where there is no clear solution to what's blocking my path, so I'll update my review if I manage to progress further.

Unfortunately this game is extremely unpolished. It needed a lot more time to smooth-out many things like movements, text sizes, lighting, menus etc. As someone who plays on controller and avoids keyboard/mouse combo (because I can't arch forward to play with them), I was highly disappointed that this game does not have a proper controller support. The Steam load-out doesn't work much. The Story looked good but I just could not play beyond a few levels because the controls were becoming annoying.

Amazing game! It’s heavily inspired by Penumbra, but the atmosphere, quality, and campaign length make it entirely worth the price. My only gripe is the final boss fight; it's brutally difficult(or impossible) if you aren't prepared for it.

Pyramis is like meeting someone you're instantly interested in, but any time you start to make progress via conversation they take a big 'ol steaming dump on your chest. The setting is cool. Great idea of a story, it definitely pulls you in. But, the game itself doesn't really keep you hooked outside of this thought in the back of your head that maybe things are going to get better. After 2 hours I just don't have it in me to keep trying. The puzzles are... Obtuse. Progressing through the way too dark base(because you got lost and ran out of batteries) is like slowly grinding your face along a brick wall. You have items that you can pull out of your inventory and they'll glow if they are in front of something you can use. It might not be something you can use with that object, but it is something you can use all the same. Usually. It's an odd UI choice, and feels clunky. The things you have to interact with don't always make sense, and aren't always easy to find. Probably because it's so dang dark. Heck, there's power to the station but they couldn't be bothered to keep the lights functional? I mean, I know the place is in disarray but I might as well be nearly blind …

tldr; Like Alien-isolation but with actual horror and actually good. But enemies make it frustrating. Very dark but you always have a blue glow around you, which makes it able to play even when you completely run out of flashlight batteries. The story is forgettable but the environment looks pretty good. It's paired with an "use item x on y" type of progression system that includes lots of backtracking. You will also look up a guide for some of them because there are a few that are not intuitive at all. There are also weapons but you will rarely use them, mainly due to ammunition shortages. Tbh, the best is just to ignore enemies all together and just respawn constantly because this way you lose no items. Oh and you will find lots of placable nightvision cameras. But there seems to be only a single spot where you can connect to the them. Seems like either an unfinished feature or somethings the dev's forgot to remove. I didn't finish the game. Going by a walk through, i got stuck half an hour before the end. The part with the gas mask was just way too hard and dying constantly with no way to progress is just no fun.
