About RAD
Brave a radioactive wasteland as a teenage mutant armed with a bat, discovering twisted new powers as mutations ravage your body in this stylish 3D rogue-like. Each run transforms you further into something inhuman but unstoppable, blending permanent consequence with escalating power in a post-apocalyptic world desperately needing a hero.

RAD is a 3D action rogue-like set in a post-post-apocalyptic world, where humanity has faced armageddon not once, but twice.
Playing as a teenage protagonist, you must venture into the Fallow — an ever-changing, radioactive wasteland filled with unknown and unspeakable creatures.
But humanity’s future comes at great personal cost, as the deeper you journey into unknown lands, the more you will expose yourself to gnarly toxins which will wreak havoc on your fragile human form.
The fate of the world depends on you, your trusty bat, and whatever strange new abilities you gain as the world around you ravages your body — twisting and mutating you into something far less than human, but far more powerful.
But forget all that — go grab that sweet bat and help save the world…or what’s remaining of it anyway!

Right, so here's the thing about RAD - or whatever roguelike you've cornered me into reviewing this week - I'm mixed on it. Not because it's bad. It's genuinely not bad. It just doesn't grab me by the collar and scream "ONE MORE RUN" at two in the morning, which, let's be honest, is the entire point of the genre. That's the whole con. That's the magic trick. And I'm a picky sod when it comes to roguelikes and roguelites, so forgive me for having standards. Now, before the developers start sharpening their pitchforks, let me be clear about what this game gets gloriously right. The mutations are brilliant. Properly brilliant. There's one that turns your head into a flaming skull, a FLAMING SKULL, which you can then chuck across the room and detonate by tapping R2 again, or by letting it introduce itself to an enemy's face. And it gets better, because you can upgrade the thing to home in on targets. So now you're a decapitated fireball with a personality. That's the kind of nonsense I signed up for. The combat's got range too. A charge-up spin attack, a lunging slash, a three-hit combo, and more besides, every one of them actually useful, which is rarer than it sounds. Absolute hidden gem! The mutations are so well thought out and mesh great with each other! Some fools are complaining about the maps but if you've played hades I wouldn't worry about it. its just the same sorta deal where you go through set biomes that change every time. Honestly grab it and just trust me because we haven't had a game this good in a while.
i love double fine but good lord this game controls horribly and the artstyle is just not great i hope they try again with a post apocalyptic game 4/10
This game kinda deserved to fail. I love the music, I love the gameplay. Except, the 3rd world is best described as 'compounded cruelty'. The map is purple, the background is pink, all the enemies are purple and pink, all their attacks are purple and pink. There's random damage that occurs, constant, continual damage from purple splotches on the ground that are literally impossible to see, impossible to tell what is causing the damage. The only way to navigate the 3rd world is by using teleportals that throw your character all over the map, back and forth to the same teleporter, on top of negative mutations that punish the player for being completionist, giving them negative buffs like 'no map vision'. In the end, you result in a game where, to finish the run, you just suicide your toon off a cliff because you can't see the map, can't navigate the teleports, and are just wandering around into invisible damage zones will eventually kill you anyway so you might as well get it over with. That, is probably not a desirable game condition for developers to put players into. Probably.
I'm mixed on this game, it's not awful, but it doesn't give me that one more run feel. I'm VERY picky about my rougelike/lite games. Even looking at the game from an arcade like game angle, it doesn't hold me. I recommend a sale.
Waste of time, can't progress without a cheat engine, apparently they didn't want anyone to enjoy it.
