About Rain and Respite

In this visual novel, you play as a city guard who gets the night off of work due to some stormy weather. With some free time on your hands, you decide the best course of action is to head to a local tavern you've never been to before. Talk to some interesting characters, eat some unknown meat, make an elf cry, and try not to be hung out to dry before the night is over.

Features

• Multiple dialogue options and routes based on your choices
• Four unique endings and epilogues
• Multiple locations that change over time
• Girls that you might find cute (or not, I'm not going to judge you)

Just wanted to provide a counterpoint to the universally positive acclaim. It's not a bad VN per se, but it really is just what it says on the tin: a very short, no-stakes slice of life with a bit of comedy sprinkled throughout. This type of project is a dime a dozen on itch and elsewhere, often even free — not that I'm suggesting this one in particular should be free, of course. There was just nothing to grab me here personally. What you see in the trailer is like 80% of the whole thing, only stretched to ~2 hours of playtime. The most I can say about this VN is that it's just... there. Neither good nor bad, just there. Which is arguably worse than if it was outright bad — you can at least have some fun poking holes in a bad game. For this one, whether you play it or not play it, it doesn't make a lick of difference.

What a neat little visual novel. I don't play a whole lot of visual novels but I have played Saeko and I am slowly working my way through Slay the princess & I do want to play through Doki Doki at some point but that's besides the point. This is clearly a passion project and honestly I like it. It's a little rough around the edges, especially since there isn't a whole lot of choices (I counted only 7 choice options) but each path does create a unique connection for each character. If you have a few hours, its not bad if you need something new and or FRESH in your life. Which works for me since I am a mindless consumer and a media fanatic. Also, its fairly cheap its like 5 dollars. The art work is beautiful and the storytelling while a bit cliche is still quite charming. (Especially Aewen, that is my personal pick. You can sue me if you want but my answer is FINAL!) Anyways yeah it's worth it if you want something simple to get into it. This is a EASY safe bet and you help support an artist too, so I consider that a win. But hey you do you. And I am giving this a 7 out of 10.
