About Record of Agarest War Mariage
Agarest begins with a hero, who at birth, was given a difficult task in defeating the Archdemon. The society revolves around the mythos of Yiris, the Larva commonly known as the Sacred Princess, who blessed the world and fell in love with a human. Martyred for her love, she was then punished by the heavenly creator. The Archdemon arrived soon after, and Yiris’ lover pledged to destroy the evil Archdemon with the infamous Ciel Blade, a sword of rainbow.
A Hero, or Chosen One, is trusted to produce an heir that can at last put an end to the Archdemon once and for all.

Fun enough but I can't recommend to anyone else. This game has some of the most unbalanced boss fights I've ever seen. My god those AOE magic nukes.2 found this helpful

Record of Agarest War Mariage is a distinctive and somewhat polarizing spin-off within the broader Agarest franchise, developed by Idea Factory in collaboration with Preapp Partners and published on PC by Idea Factory International, Inc. Unlike the mainline Agarest titles, which are known for their slow, grid-based tactical combat, Mariage shifts its focus toward a more traditional turn-based JRPG structure while retaining the series’ signature obsession with generational legacy, romance, and inherited power. The result is a game that feels less like a strategy epic and more like a character-driven role-playing saga, heavily steeped in visual-novel sensibilities and long-form storytelling. The narrative revolves around a cyclical war against an Archdemon that continues to resurrect despite repeated defeats. Rather than portraying a single heroic journey, the game frames its story around the idea that true victory can only be achieved through legacy. The chosen hero must not only fight evil directly but also forge relationships, marry, and produce a successor strong enough to finally break the cycle. This premise places romance and interpersonal bonds at the center of the narrative…1 found this helpful
We'll mostly ignore the art style since art style is more subjective, but it is definitely a huge change from previous Agarest War games. If you are on the steam deck, do be aware that you have to turn off steam input to avoid a bug that will disable your controls, potentially forcing you to have to close the game and have to restart from your last save. For fans of the previous Agarest War games, this is barely an Agarest War game. It is an RPG with multiple generations (2 generations that I know of), but very limited in scope. The game also feels like it is pandering to certain interests with the huge amount of fanservice CG compared to previous games. The characters feel very flat; not just the enemies, but also the main characters. All very one-dimensional. There seemed to be an attempt to add depth, but that went nowhere fast. The story is very... basic. You are going to save the world. That is basically the story in one sentence. Oh, there are certain a few side stuff, but you don't have any choices that will change the flow of the story or any real depth to the story that will make you go: I didn't see that coming a mile away. You have four classes that you can pick from…
Easy enough turn based combat. Likable characters. Romance options.
