Republique VR

Basically false advertisement from my point of view. I was expecting a first person type stealth game, but it turned out to be an old fashioned "You are the Watch Dogs cameras in the ceiling leading a character around" game. Nowhere on the store page does it state this. All the store page "screenshots" are basically a lie, in terms of your in-game POV, even the original game's store page screenshots and the one video it has barely show what type of game it is. The game does work in VR as advertised, and after briefly trying the original it does have some minor improvements over it, such as being able to inspect collectibles as 3D models, not 2D images, but it's just not what I expected the game to be. I did play slightly past the entire first episode (of five) to see if maybe it changes up there, but it doesn't. I really wanted to like the game. Love VR and stealth games. But this was not a hit for me. The gatekeeping with door levels, backtracking through areas after collecting the required level and the fact that you cannot listen to the audio while actively playing was a major turn off for me.

No, not playable due to the controls (HTC Vive Pro); no way to aim fast and correctly at where to go. Anyhow, the idea is fine, and if controller aiming worked, I'd probably like it.

I'm starting to find that older PCVR titles just had more soul put into their development. This is definitely on that list. By the time I learned of this game it was already free to celebrate Camouflag's 10th anniversary. I'd have easily paid money for this. And to learn this is the same studio that gave us Iron Man VR and Batman: Arkham Shadow. By that time Meta got involved and, well... In any case, its not a perfect game by any means. It definitely will not sit well with the first person purists, as they generally dislike any VR game using a 3rd person view. But the story definitely hooks you. The voice acting is superb. Just overall sound and atmosphere draws you in. The graphics are dated but still looks great in VR. Its refreshing to see how devs had to balance things to accomodate weaker hardware in the past. That's becoming a forgotten art. And it also means that this should run flawlessly on most PCs, even when maxing out resolution scale to get that crispness you want in VR. Gameplay is alright.
