Rescue: The Beagles

Cool update to one of the all-time great indie games. Cute, funny, and very cleverly-designed arcade game. Took me a while to adjust to some of the changes because I put so many hours into the original, but I came around on most of them. Could use online leaderboards, but not a dealbreaker.

Really good arcade-like game, it's still as fun as I remember from the old version. Happy to see it here!

I was playing the original Rescue the Beagles game over and over for years. I still have it on my hard drive. It's one of my favourite and most played games ever. I was actually recommending it to a friend a few days ago and trying to find it on webarchive it caught my attention that this wonderful remake is on Steam now. What a surprise! It is quite simple, small game, but it's very addictive. And it's not worrying kind of addiction, because its also pretty hard, so one session with a few runs won't take a lot of time. But you will be coming back, because how can you stop rescuing poor dogggies?! It has a very unique charm. Sounds and music are also adding to the magic. I really love this game.

I remember playing the original version of this game way back when I was a kid, in the old Windows XP days. A couple years back, I rediscovered that version and that it still worked on new versions of Windows; imagine my surprise then to find out there was a ground-up remake, and that it's every bit as addicting as the original. The new features all feel completely natural to the game's core: besides the complete graphical overhaul, there are new power-ups that grant temporary invincibility, a new obstacle in the form of water that affects level layout and temporarily restricts movement, and a new upgrade system to improve your abilities each run. A public steam release also means global leaderboards, as opposed to the arcade machine-style local leaderboard of the original. They even added new multiplayer game modes. Besides that, the gameplay still remains untouched, and the sound design along with two separate soundtracks remain untouched. Overall, it adds up to a "yeah, I'd call this the definitive version of Rescue: The Beagles". With that said, though, I do have a couple critiques.
