About Resident Evil

✦ AI summary

Survive a zombie-infested mansion as a special forces team uncovers the horrifying secrets of Raccoon City in this remastered HD edition of the genre-defining survival-horror classic. Rebuilt with enhanced graphics, widescreen support, modernized controls, and remastered audio, it delivers the atmospheric terror of the original with contemporary presentation.

The game that defined the survival-horror genre is back! Check out the remastered HD version of Resident Evil.

In 1998 a special forces team is sent to investigate some bizarre murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Upon arriving they are attacked by a pack of blood-thirsty dogs and are forced to take cover in a nearby mansion. But the scent of death hangs heavy in the air. Supplies are scarce as they struggle to stay alive.

Graphics
  • More detailed graphics that retain the horror.
  • The environments come alive with detail thanks to resolution upgrades and non-static 3D models.
  • Post-processing effects like Bloom filters, which were not easy to do at the time of the original release, have been added to make the HD graphics even more realistic.
  • High-Resolution Environments - We've increased the resolution of the background environments by recreating them with a mix of high-res static images, plus animated 3D models.

Widescreen Support
  • Widescreen (16:9) is supported, so players can experience a greater sense of immersion.
  • In widescreen mode, the screen will scroll. The parts of the screen that get cut off on the top and bottom will scroll into view automatically depending on the character's position.
  • You can switch the display mode during gameplay in real time.

Sound & New Controls
  • High-Quality Sound - The audio has been remastered to increase the sampling rate, and of course 5.1ch output is also now supported.
  • New Controls
  • You can play using the original control scheme or an alternate control scheme that lets you just push the analog stick to move in the direction you want to go.
  • You can switch the control scheme during gameplay in real time.

Many think this is the perfect rendition of the Resident Evil idea, and it's not hard to see why. The mansion setting, the dual protagonist structure, the well-designed levels, and cinematic presentation that's still just goofy enough to remain true to series roots - it all just works. Holds up shockingly well for a game that's nearly 25 years old. Must play for RE fans, and strongly recommended for any horror fans.

This game is good, but very puzzle heavy. If you can deal with some clunky mechanics, it's amazing. 9/10, 6/10 for modern RE fans. (Just a guess, i really recommend this game)

a very enjoyable experience, i've never tried the old games so trying this alongside the fixed camera angles was a blast. i will say backtracking and the door animations was quite annoying but besides that, as a person who's only played games past the remakes i liked it a ton. definitely worth a shot if you catch it on sale.

At first glance the game may seem complicated due to tank controls, however you get used to it quite swiftly. This is one of the best in the franchise, please play it.

the controls on this game are pure ragebait

Pretty good, there's some things I like and some things I don't like compared to the og resident evil: The zombies are absurdly tanky, like I shot a dude five times, twice in the head, stabbed him like 8 times and he still wasn't dead and it was just a jobber zombie, the resources are balanced pretty well, you get more bullets to deal with the zombies, but the knife, which already felt under powered in the original and more like a method of just saving a few bullets, feels even more underwhelming The mansion looks great, but I feel like it looks too much like a horror movie set, like it's very melodramatic whereas the original, while lacking a lot of detail, felt more like it was just a place where ♥♥♥♥ just happened to be going down. The mansion in this one is like OOOOOoooOOOo spooky haunted mansion! WHOOooooOOOOooo is keeping all the candles lit in this HAUNTED MaNsSSSSioooonnnn? Heheh...we sure are evil, you can tell because of all the bones and creepy stuff we keep around A great game that adds a lot to the re1 experiences, but idk if I prefer it over the original, sometimes less is more and this game is just enough in some places and too much in others
