About Retool
Retool is a 3D hacking puzzle game set on incomplete orbital defense stations that circle around Sinai, home planet of the alien species known as Onix.
After 43 years of war, the Onix triumphed and defeated the humans. The victory came at a cost of destruction to their planet and orbital stations. Instead of repairing it themselves, the Onix used their captured prisoners as slave labor to rebuild their destroyed properties, starting with the stations.
You are Maria, an engineer that was captured in the final weeks of the war. Having hacked your way out of your prison cell on a station, you must escape and return home.

What can i say about Retool that.... It's a game? it has idea's? I'm sure the developers have had the best of intentions with this title, but from top to bottom this title is a mix of bad mechanic to worse execution. Retool markets itself as a hacking puzzle game, where you would assume that would be it's two main focuspoints. Hacking mechanics and puzzles. Sadly, starting from the top, the hacking is ... weak. you use a console and suddenly to can reconfigure some lines on the map, sometimes you need TWO consoles, but the base is really that. The UI is annoying with different buttons for actions that have no reason to be separate actions, with MANY of the "hacks" serving no purpose, boiling it down to "lets move to the lines so the doors open, and remove all the other lines so I don't get shot by a turret". The AI doesn't react to any of that, fellow AI will gleefully ignore a corpse and keep moving on their linear path. Also, the AI doesn't use sound, movement, hacks, triggers or audio warnings of any kind to be alerted.. merely it's VERY tig…49 found this helpful
Retool is a buggy, unplayable mess. You'll need to copy files from another game just to get it to actually start in Linux. Having done so, the game itself continues the pain. The game expects you use a Gamepad and is hardwired for Xbox360 prompts, even if you try to play with the keyboard. And you have to - the hack mode where you'll do most of the work in Retool ignores the zoom buttons on my wired Xbox360 controller and moving around the simple map is nearly impossible because the controller moves so fast. Switching to the mouse/keyboard combo is a no-brainer then, except that mouse-bounding issue keep cropping up, meaning that you can't access one half of any given map. This occurs in hack mode, meaning you can't hack half the map, and realtime mode, meaning that you can't rotate the map in a certain direction. Then there's barrier number #2 - you can't cancel connections with the keyboard (that I could find). It's meant to be x, I think, but that does nothing. So to cancel a connection when playing with mouse/keyboard, you'll need to reach over to hit "Y" on your gamepad. It's a car crash. Avoid.15 found this helpful
In my own opinion this game isn't set up entirely well, for $7 I don't believe it is worth buying, it seems more like a game that should be a free flashplayer deal. Its not a bad game, just not fun, challenging, engaging, or interesting... but nothing inherently bad. A meh way to spend an hour and a half, but not really anything else. Maybe almost worth a dollar, definitly not 10. Oh, and before I forget, not a hacking game, you just use a computer to redirect buttons.5 found this helpful
