About Retro Revengers

Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of Central Japan lies Ludens Castle, where five friends, the Retro Revengers, get isekai'd into a strange land that threatens the existence of not just their games, but their world too.

Embark on a journey with Ossan, Mao, Taicho, Matchan and Notchi as you harness their newfound abilities bestowed upon them by the Retro Goddess. Meet companions from the past, defend yourself from enemies, and overcome the bosses blocking your way to the Demon Overlord of Triple-A.

Explore diverse stage environments and different powers with each companion, all in beautiful 8-bit pixel art and accompanied by retro music. Master the characters' different powers as you traverse diverse environments full of unforgiving enemies in this retro-style platformer.

With the stages and their mechanics changing as you progress through the game, switch between the characters to find the fastest way through each level. The upbeat music and a narrative bursting with references and easter eggs will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Manami Matsumae, the original music composer for the classic Megaman and Shovel Knight, pulls out all the stops to create the music that will keep you pumped on your journey to defeat the Demon Overlord of Triple-A.

Join the Retro Revengers in this adventure platformer, inspired by the games of the decades past, as they take you on a journey to discover and save the world of retro gaming!
🎬Gameplay Video🎬
https://youtu.be/-xdbwp7v9Rk Retro Revengers not surprisingly has a retro feel and is modeled on games of yesteryear. There are five different characters to play, all with their own type of jump and charge attack, and certain levels with different terrains, enemies, and traps, suite some characters better than others. In your first play through you play each of the five characters in turn, with simplified levels and five bosses to defeat. After completing that, you are able to run through the same levels again but can swap between the five characters at will, even changing multiple times on the same level, if you so wish. Each character has their own life health, so if your chosen character is about to die, you can change characters to stave off death, or if you reveal a health boost from any treasure chests, you can cycle through your characters and give it to the one who needs it the most. This makes it sound like a team effort, but realistically I just stuck to the character who was most suited to that level, and switched when there was a specialized jump to make or particular hazard that another character could deal with. I still didn’t sw…

- The game is rather short--five short levels but you play through them a second time as harder versions plus a final boss rush. There are achievements for speed running and no-hit runs. - Normal difficulty is fairly hard. - There are a ton of (I assume) inside jokes but the humor was alright. I couldn't hate it. - The controls take some getting used to. - The ample bosoms are appreciated. Overall, Retro Revengers is a nice little novelty of a game. $10 is a little much for what it is but it's worth a try if you can get it on sale. It's not bad.

Retro Revengers is a retro platformer that's very much in the vein of the action platformers from the SNES era. You've got a character that has to traverse half a dozen screens, with some light platforming, lots of enemies and some obstacles in the way. To help with the traversal, your character has a weapon that can attack from a distance as well as a special ability. The twist is that Retro Revengers has five playable characters, each with their own unique weapon, special attack AND platforming abilities. For example, one character may have a triple jump while another may float or even hover a little, Yoshi-style. Each character must go through a stage while collecting some optional treasure chests and beat a boss that's no slouch before you can play the next one. These bosses tend to be quite good, difficult enough to force the player to play carefully while still being beatable on the first try if you're good enough. The weapon design is obviously inspired by Castlevania, but the game shines through its level design that never misses, as well as its soundtrack made by Megaman and Shovel Knight's composer. It's fun! Really fun, even. The controls are tight enough…

Retro Revengers is, as the name implies, an intentional throwback in terms of graphics, sound, and (some) gameplay sensibilities. It is an action platformer with a cast of characters (old man Ossan, dragon Mao, weird kid Taicho, even weirder man-child Matchan, and cat Notchi) that have varied jumping and attacking mechanics. After playing through the main cast's levels once, you can switch between characters to tackle different obstacles or preserve health (as each character has a separate health bar). For comparison, you might think of something like Fallen Leaf or MegaMan X8. As far as the presentation goes, I like the goofy, cartoony style of the characters and bosses. While I am not a fan of the specific characters individually, as a ragtag group of weirdos, they fit the silly, comedic tone of the game to a t. The music is good, particularly for the boss encounters. The comedy in the writing is good, though the meta humor and letter substitution for real game names (such as "Elden Thing" for "Elden Ring") can get a little grating. For gameplay, I feel like the game can take a little getting used to. The jumping feels a touch too stiff, and you can really feel it when playing …
