About Safelight

Welcome to Safelight: the first-person puzzle horror, and debut game, from BiMonocle Games.

You are an amateur photographer, and you find yourself suddenly alone on a Victorian-themed cruise ship, previously filled with passengers. As you explore it becomes apparent that entire areas of the ship have vanished. You're left with nothing but your wits and a makeshift darkroom that you've set up in your cabin. Hidden rolls of film help you recover areas that had disappeared and reveal new secrets about the supernatural elements in play.

PUZZLES

Navigate the vacant cruise ship while solving puzzles as you attempt to piece together the story behind the vanishing passengers.

DANGEROUS ENTITIES

Avoid hostile entities that roam the ship and are drawn to bright light sources.

EERIE ENVIRONMENTS

Realistic graphics, sinister sound design, and dark, somber environments create constant tension.

MINIMAL USER INTERFACES

Simplified HUD and minimal user interfaces improve immersion, further adding to the fear.

Good game, needs to be longer...finished it in less than an hour. Also no save so if you quit you have to start all over.

Pretty cool game. Spooky atmosphere. Controls are a bit loose and catwalk labyrinth section was unintuitive. (For anyone stuck on that section:
There is a key in one of the cabinets.
) Other than that, it was a chill game to spend a bit of time on. Worth the price.

Safelight, is a first-person puzzle horror game that immerses players in the eerie silence of a Victorian-themed cruise ship. Pros: ✔️ Immersive Atmosphere: The game masterfully creates a haunting environment with good graphics and a sinister sound design, keeping me on edge throughout my exploration. ✔️ Engaging Puzzles: Recovering hidden rolls of film to restore missing areas of the ship added a unique and challenging layer to the gameplay, making each discovery rewarding. ✔️ Minimalist Interface: The simplified HUD and minimal user interfaces enhanced immersion, allowing me to fully engage with the game's world without distractions. Cons: ❌ Repetitive Mechanics: At times, the process of finding and developing film became monotonous, slightly diminishing the overall excitement. ❌ Limited Enemy Variety: The hostile entities, while initially terrifying, lacked diversity, which could have added more depth to the horror experience. ❌ Abrupt Ending: The conclusion felt sudden, leaving several narrative threads unresolved and me yearning for more closure. Despite these drawbacks, "Safelight" offers a compelling horror experience that kept me engaged from start to finish. The …

oddly enough, despite the horrible ending and unanswered questions it's worth a few bucks to play this walking sim, find a key/photo, puzzle, stealth in darkness game, I enjoyed it

Fun horror game. The atmosphere and world building are really well done. The sound design and interactables are great. I liked the flashlight mechanic for enemies. Puzzles are on the more straightforward side of things and could definitely have been more intricate. The number puzzles specifically could be misleading. My favorite puzzle was the railing combination pattern puzzle. Something I felt could be an interesting development would be an even darker environment and using a broken analogue camera instead of a flashlight. With how the enemies worked the flashlight is used in bursts anyways to not attract the enemies. The broken camera would also tie in with the film rolls found throughout the game. The matches and lighting system felt out of place and did not seem to work as intended. Enemies did not react to lighting lamps and lighting the lamps isn't necessary to progress. My thoughts on the number puzzles
The first number puzzle could be a little different and require the player to think a bit. The change could be that the lock code is related to the red circled numbers and the rooms' numbers instead of the current number order which is just the order the playe…

Lovely puzzle horror game to enjoy! There is a great use of liminal spaces to enhance the spooky atmosphere, and the sound design was great. The film developing mechanic was very interesting. :) I look forward to seeing what the devs next come up with, as this was a very well-made first title!
