SBX Invasion is an unusual hybrid of the Asteroids/SpaceWar! 2D top down spaceship arcade game and a tower defense game. Fly a spaceship around and build defense towers and other support structures in space with it, and also fight off enemies with your ship. It's not an unappealing concept, and a number of hybrid TD games have found tremendous success on Steam (Orcs Must Die, Sanctum etc). Unfortunately, while the unique concept is appealing, the delivery here falls flat. They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. The interface is clunky and lacklustre, and unintuitive. Since you need to be able to build structures quickly, being locked to SpaceWar! style controls makes this frustrating and unenjoyable. It's a shame to see a viable concept fail because of a lacklustre implementation.1 found this helpful
It's good. It's a cheap-as-hell gamemaker game, but it does the job of action-and-strategy hybrid gameplay. tower defense and spaceship fly-and-shoot. Considering the price, it's worth it. I got my money's worth anyway.1 found this helpful
