About Secrets Of Soil
Henry Driver's new interactive journey, Secrets of Soil, was inspired by his family's attempts to make their farming practices carbon negative. He presents a visually striking view of the world beneath our feet and explores his thoughts around how it would be possible to better care for and preserve it.
Secrets of Soil is an artistic experience set in a reimagining of the cosmic world beneath our feet.
Explore the microscopic landscape to understand the many citizens of the soil and the essential roles they play in this diverse ecosystem. Witness how bacteria and plants speak to each other. Glide through vast fungal webs. Create earthworm burrows. Or simply relax and linger in dazzling soilscapes and explore this unseen world. Unearth the secret of how this hidden universe could help save us from climate disaster.

Secrets of Soil is an artist’s vision centred around bringing awareness to the change that we can all be a part of when thinking about the world we live in. The project received support from leading Plant Science and Microbiology Researchers at the John Innes Centre, UK.

"Secrets Of Soil" is not a game. Games need functional gamelike interaction and core loops, which do not exist in this "art experience". In place of being a game, "Secrets Of Soil" is a software application that presents a mediocre video exhibition/Youtube documentary. This is an incredibly boring Youtube video about soil. Yep, soil. Okay, if you like watching Natural World and other BBC documentaries you might like this too (it's boring), but let's get back to the main point here... this isn't a game. Why is this good for gamers? For those unaware of what constitutes a game, a "game loop" refers to the interaction and feedback loops a user experiences when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat t…2 found this helpful

beautiful images and crucial info about what we as humans are doing to our soil that creates more problems now and in the long run a must see and hear game documentary fun getting to explore the elements that make up soil and hearing how they interact together to help protect us as human population
love it, would like to do something like this myself, should be experienced with open windows after the rain
