Story

She has fins...? She has fins! Never underestimate the power of science...
Leaving the big city to return to his rural hometown, our protagonist reunites with his childhood friend Ion.
But she's now... a freshwater mermaid!?
It doesn't end there though, he soon meets another mermaid named Petakko who's memory has become, well, fish-like. Then he runs into Rin, a priestess with a split personality living her life in mystery.
Centered on legends and stories of mermaids, an incredibly unique and science filled summer vacation with Ion, Petakko, and Rin now begins...

Introduction
Ion
CV: Mai Fuchigami
A childhood friend of the protagonist who has somehow gotten herself turned into a mermaid.
Usually a shy and somewhat introverted girl, but, when she's with Hiroto, she sometimes uses her tail to express how she feels...
By hitting him with it!
Petako
CV: Aya Suzaki
Another mermaid Ion and the Hiroto meet.
A bright and outgoing girl with a memory system that's basically degraded to that of a fish.
Really, she can barely even remember what happened the day before.
More research is needed to determine if this is normal part of being a mermaid.
It doesn't seem to hold her back any though, she lives her life to its fullest.
Lin
CV: risa kasama
A priestess of a mysterious shrine said to have been built by people who moved to the village a long time ago from overseas.
She knows both Ion and Petakko and seems to take care of them.
She's much stronger than she looks. And yes, her punches are incredibly painful.
It is hypothesized that since she is a priestess, she can become possessed by her shrine's deity. It's like she has two completely different personalities!

Changes to the PC version from the original
1. Some background images have been upgraded.
2. The UI has been modified for a better experience on PC.
3. Some branches leading to bad endings have been removed.

This was a chore to read. This is one of the least professional translation jobs by Sekai Project (they were involved with the Kickstarter, despite not being listed as a Publisher here). There are several instances of untranslated text, many instances of debug code ( <center>, <align>) in the text, some voiced lines that don't actually play voices, and typos, missing words or just general wonkyness/confusion otherwise. The biggest slap in the face for PC players, for whatever stupid legal/license reason, is that this is the inferior version and is missing "additional scenario content, Live2D animation and a new theme song". The skip function is also only minimally helpful as it doesn't consider whether the text is unread or not and just charges through. Past all this, the characters aren't interesting and the writing varies from plain to extremely simple text. There were a few bits of enjoyment, but it wasn't worth the read.

I got this during a sale so it was like... About a dollar or less give or take and it still feels too expensive. The translation was extremely amateurish, with many "(?)" in the lines that gave the script an rather childish air, there are debugs and typos aplenty and in many moments I was asking myself if the original text itself is horrendous or it was the bad translation. There was also a lot of nonsensical meandering, untranslated text (including menus), steam screenshots won't work and I heard that all the extra content had been stripped away from this version. Honestly? If I had finished it under 2 hours I would have considered refunding it. It was a very bad experience. Stay away from it. --- Longer review, if you'd like more details A young scientifically-inclined man named Hiroto feels compelled into going back to his hometown in the countryside and meet again with his childhood friend, Ion. The story is quite simple and the character development is quite good. However,it's lacking mystery atmosphere and the decision of choices seems rushed. Maybe if they could deepen the relationships between the characters and the mystery, it would be a really good VN. Overall OK to me

She is Mermaid is a heartfelt and whimsical visual novel developed by COSEN in collaboration with TALESSHOP that combines fantasy, romance, and a nostalgic slice-of-life atmosphere. Set in a quiet seaside town shimmering with the warmth of summer, the story follows Hiroto, a young man who returns to his rural hometown after years away in the city. What begins as a simple homecoming quickly turns into something extraordinary when he discovers that his childhood friend Ion has become a mermaid. From there, the game unfolds as a delicate mixture of human drama and gentle fantasy, exploring themes of memory, connection, and the bittersweet nature of growing up. Rather than leaning on high-stakes conflict or heavy emotional melodrama, She is Mermaid finds its strength in subtle storytelling and its ability to evoke a mood of tranquility and wonder. The setting plays a central role in the experience, serving as both a physical and emotional anchor for the characters. The seaside village, surrounded by clear water, crumbling docks, and the hum of cicadas, creates a feeling of familiarity and nostalgia. The visuals complement this perfectly: the art is soft, vibrant, and full of detail, p…

Not your Otosan's Ningyo. No eating it and staying alive for 800 years and apparently they do not eat people anymore. The backgrounds were wonderful. The characters were beautifully done. Voice acting was good. The music was not so great. The narrator was definitely on the spectrum. I know the MC's of most VN's are usually dumb and can't read social situations but this narrator takes it to a new level of stupidity with his long drawn out autistic rants. Not sure who this game was made for I guess people who love mermaid cleavage. It's like something out of the the Monster Girl Doctor universe except in modern times. If you like that you might like this, especially if you read the LN's.

She is Mermaid was a fun little read about a stereotypical science nerd coming face to face with a fantasy mermaid in the form of his childhood friend. While the games characters are heavy with normal stereo types which may feel over done and shallow at first; the novel does a great job at keeping their consistency throughout so that rather than being trope-y esque the characters end up feeling more fleshed out due to how consistent they are with their stereo types, and how they react to events fully in character. The story is a simple take on the usual mermaid fairy tales like The Little Mermaid where the protag falls in love with his best friend who turned into a mermaid, but with him being a science nerd the whole story revolved around him attempting to make scientifical sense of mermaids. While the main plot revolved around a misunderstanding / bluster it was still a fun read that made use of the usual if such and such was properly communicated like adults then the whole story never would have happened, YET the characters aren't full adults yet. The whole cast was a roller coaster of out of their minds, but in a fun way. While it is still a mermaid love story there was definit…
