SINNER: Sacrifice for Redemption is an action RPG that distinguishes itself from the crowded Soulslike genre by introducing a mechanic that completely changes the traditional sense of progression. Developed by DARK STAR and published by Neon Doctrine and Raw Fury, the game challenges players to embrace weakness rather than pursue constant growth. Instead of becoming stronger after every victory, players willingly sacrifice parts of their own power before confronting each major boss. This bold gameplay concept is deeply tied to the game's central themes of guilt, atonement, and redemption, creating an experience where every battle feels meaningful. Rather than relying on familiar formulas alone, SINNER builds its own identity by encouraging players to succeed through skill, patience, and careful decision-making rather than overwhelming statistics. The story follows Adam, a mysterious warrior seeking redemption in a cursed world consumed by darkness. As he journeys through the ruined kingdom of Cavanis, he must confront enemies that embody the seven deadly sins while uncovering fragments of his forgotten past. The narrative takes a subtle approach, allowing environmental storytellin…1 found this helpful
this is on of those games i wish steam had a middle of the road rating for. but because i don't think i would want to play this again, i put it bad. i am not a huge fan of boss rush games. i think they are more annoying than anything. the game looks fine, while bosses are unique, everything is graphically enough to get the job done. music is okay, it is enough to at least make each boss interesting. gameplay is okay. the weird controls melted my brain while playing because i kept mashing dark souls buttons to play. it is a pretty short game, this review is after my second play through which was about an hour and a half. i am going to chalk it up to my recent experience playing a lot of souls likes. otherwise it might have taken a couple hours more, possibly the same could be said to one with less experience playing this game.
This game is designed with one thing in mind, and that is to be as frustrating as possible! I don't know what they were going for when designing these terrible boss fights and also making it so that you get more debuffs each time you fight another boss and they continue to stack. If you recall the "sacrifice" to remove that particular debuff, then that boss respawns and you have to kill it again. You have to leave each sacrifice and get weaker after each boss fight to beat the game. Once again, this game is specifically designed to be difficult just for the sake of being frustrating. I don't recommend this game unless you just really want to test yourself. You may have a different experience than me but in my opinion, it does seem like some of the designs were made to be frustrating. Yes, soulslike games are usually hard but not just for the sake of being hard. I actually don't mind the debuff being added before the fight, but they stack for each boss fight. So by the time you're at the final boss, you're down on power, health, stamina, health potions, items that help buff your weapon and throwables, etc. So now you have the difficulty, plus your hands are tied behind your back. I …
I especially enjoyed it in terms of difficulty; it came up with an idea about all the previous games.
I 100%ed this game. It's decent. Controls take a second to get used too. Theres different presets though. I used a xbox controller and used the preset where you attack with rb rt. Theres only 1 boss that sucks. Sloth is so boring and braindead. The other bosses are decent. Runs really well. Cons: You get nothing for doing the HARDEST trail. All bosses 1 life and you cant dodge but you can run faster. I did it which I'm still amazed about. I didn't like the debuff after every boss but if you dont have the debuffs you steam roll through the bosses so I get it. Long story short. If you are just gonna do 1 playthrough then wait till a sale. If you are going to 100% the game (And do all trails and modes) Then I can confidently say this is worth full price. People are bad. That's why there's mixed reviews. I got my ass kicked at first too.
