The winner of Sumo Digital’s inaugural Game Jam, Snake Pass was created by Seb Liese as a love letter to both the favourite games of his youth and his childhood pet snake. After winning, a full demo was produced and taken around various public shows where it was met with great enthusiasm by gamers of all ages. Buoyed by its success, full production began when the team returned home to Sumo HQ. The culmination has resulted in Snake Pass, a truly one of a kind game featuring the most unlikely of heroes; Noodle the Snake!

The main draw is the unusual controls - having to navigate the world as a snake instead of being able to simply walk forward. Unfortunately though, I would often know what I wanted to do, and be unable to execute it, because the snake slips. Which is odd. I'll be in a very secure position, but the snake's body is always sublty moving when he's holding on, as if he was slippery/slimy. So instead of being able to take things slow when you need to, there isn't a moment to even pause and breathe. You must keep going. That doesn't feel good to control or to play. The "gripp" button isn't any help, as you still slip. But your main enemy is the camera. The hummingbird companion obstructs your view periodically. Why??? Get out of my face! I need to see the puzzles! This is also true of scenery. Countless times I failed a puzzle because suddenly my screen was blocked by a tree. The game seems to be terribly optimized. My computer actually crashed when I ran the graphics on anything higher than Low. Baffling. The water controls lower you too quickly, and you rise too fast. So swimming sucks to play. The game feels like it needs fine tuning. As is, it's an irritating game. Waste of ti…

A 3D collectathon that feels like none other! I tell you, the programming behind this sleepy, slippery snake is masterful -- unlike anything I've seen before or since this game came out. Whatever movements you imagine a sentient cartoon snake pulling off, you can do it here, and you'll have to do it, all of it, to have a prayer of collecting the shiny whatsits. If you're reading this, you've probably long-since internalized the running, jumping, and momentum of a standard platformer -- so much so that you can immediately start playing any game that uses such mechanics -- but you'll have to change neural gears entirely to master this new set. Right Trigger starts driving forward, Left grips (you can see him shake with the effort), A lifts his ophidian noggin, Y gets the hummingbird friend to grab his tail to reduce rear weight, and the sticks are, well, pretty obvious. The way it all comes together feels alien at first, like learning to ride a bike when you're a kid, or playing your very first NES game some Christmas morning. Once you've got it down, though, it's just another part of you, a bra…

Eu joguei e me diverti um pouco…
