TL;DR: This a really good foundation that is thoroughly let down by the dev's use of AI. I got it for 2 dollars on sale, and can't recommend anyone spend more than that. This is meant to be an informational review as I know the game is in EA, and I do have good things to say about it, but I can't recommend the game as it currently stands, and would recommend people give this one a lot of time to cook. For a positive, the combat and weapon design feel very good. Some weapons feel a little strange balancing wise but they all have fun designs and I like the system with the different ammo and damage types. I do also like the bullet time mechanic and like how generous the game is with it; I have always been a big fan of bullet time shooters and it's nice to see more of them. The Cons: AI. This game clearly wants to be taken seriously as a story driven singleplayer game on some level (there is a conversation choice system and seemingly a companion system/NPC relationship system) that is THOROUGHLY let down in any way by the AI voice acting. All of the performances are flat to the point where I genuinely cannot find a reason to care, and I suspect that a lot of the writing was hand…

so with the game in its current state/length id only recomend this if u like trying and supporting early acces indi games from small devs, otherwise definetly wait till its further along. for a game thats 5$ (or less) i think theirs alot of potentioal but that dont mean ♥♥♥♥ if it never gets finished. tho it does apear the dev is currently working away on ch2 so thats hopefull. currently theirs only chapter one wich is extremely short, about an hour and the story seems like it could be intersesting but its really hard to say at such an early junction as u really dont get a lot of it, just a general outline of why u are were u are. the weapons are very cool looking and very punchy with different damage types and all the weapon animations are done well, pistols,shotguns, rifles, and rail guns and the futuristic style of the levels is well done that said the areas feel vary disconected as u clear a small area of a few enemys then get teleported to the next small area with a few more enemys, its explained via the main story and sounds like it will be an integral part of the story. the one major problem i have is the enemy ai, its not that its bad per say, like they arent buggy or a…

It is on early access, but I can't wait for the full game to get released. It felt like AAA studio developed this game, amazing futuristic world.

I really enjoyed this, if you're a fan of shooters then this game is a must! The story is interesting and the combat is awesome with tons of options and cool mechanics. Only one chapter out ATM but for 5$ it's well worth it, Can't wait for the rest!

Just completed chapter 1 (The current EA content) on "Hard", and Sophonce is a very pleasant surprise at just $4, though I do have some issues with it. To start with, the weapon feedback is phenomenal against humanoid enemies (Less so the bots). There is limb dismemberment, elemental effects, and the guns just look and feel satisfying to shoot against them. Oh, and there is a story, with branching dialogue choices, but it's too early to judge how well any of it is done. But my biggest complaint about this game is it's encounter design. Those satisfying feeling firearms I described earlier? IMO they are entirely let down by this game's biggest flaw, which is pacing and encounter design. The game uses an old school health system, which I am not against by default, but every single encounter in chapter 1 was in a room of varying sizes, with minimal cover, no verticality (Everything is a flat, total corridor shooter with no reason to look up aside from shooting drones), and 2 to 3 spawn rooms that are blocked off by a forcefield.
