Made by a solo developer, Space Cats Tactics brings together the nerve-wracking battles of turn-based strategy games and the powerful epic stories of space opera.

Combining grid- and turn-based tactical combat (as seen in games like XCOM and Divinity: Original Sin) and inside-ship crew management (like in games such as FTL and Star Command Galaxies), in Space Cats Tactics you will have to be on your toes and think every step very carefully!

KEY FEATURES
Fight nerve-wracking space battles in turn-based tactical combat.
Your ship and crew will be outnumbered and outgunned – you’ll have to be smarter than your enemies to beat them!
Two strategic layers: zoom in and out of the spaceship in real-time, switching between the space combat layer and the management.
Customize your ship by buying new rooms and upgrading them to gain new abilities.
Adapt it to your playstyle or experiment with different configurations so every playthrough is unique!
Deep combat system: put your tactical skills to the test in grid-based in big grid-based battle maps. Choose how to spend your Action Points between many different kinds of weapons and attacks, special abilities, and consumables
Manage your cat crew: send your crew of space cats to different special rooms in your spaceship, activating different abilities that allow you to adapt to different tactical situations. A cat in the right place can make the difference between victory and defeat!
Explore deep space: marvel at the wonders of deep space flying through clouds of gas, mining asteroids for resources you can sell, helping ships in trouble, or boarding derelicts in random NPC encounters
Dive into a thrilling space opera story, an epic tale of just heroes, charming rogues and evil villains, full of witty dialogues and choices where every encounter has different outcomes for you to write your own story

Plot:

A long time ago, humans created your race, a hybrid of cat and man. to be their slave warriors and fight their wars for them.
But after long years of servitude, these space cats turned against their creators and fought for their freedom.
Eventually, they forced humans to sign a treaty liberating the whole Catkind… but your kind is still despised and feared, even though they are fierce warriors and skilled pilots.

You are Captain Mitzi, a mercenary hired to smuggle the ship Curiosity to a remote corner of the galaxy. Turns out the job had more to it than you thought: now you’re running for your lives with the government’s ships hot on your heels! Every encounter has different outcomes and every decision will impact your destiny, so choose wisely: you can be a righteous hero or a vengeful pirate, talk your way out of things like a charming rogue or escape gun blazing.

Playtime: ~7 Hours (Completed Campaign) After sinking around 7 hours into Space Cats - Tactics and seeing the credits roll, my primary feeling is one of disappointment stemming from unmet potential. I kept playing, holding onto the hope that the game would eventually introduce more complexity or deeper mechanics, right up until the final boss simply vanished and the game ended. The Good (Sort Of): Charming Theme: The "cats in space" concept is inherently fun, and the game leans into this aesthetically. If you're a huge cat lover, the visual theme might offer some initial appeal. Potential Entry Point (Maybe?): For someone who has literally never played a tactics game before, the extreme simplicity might serve as a very gentle, non-threatening introduction to the absolute basics of the genre. The Disappointing: Overly Simplistic Gameplay: The core issue is the profound lack of depth. The game operates at a level I'd expect from a title aimed at very young children. The tactical layer is paper-thin. Minimal Challenge: While there are "tactics" involved, figuring them out is trivial. There's no real strategic puzzle to unravel, which removes much of the satisfaction typ…

A good little tactics game. Having to man the different rooms to activate different stations was a nice twist. Would be cool to see something a little bigger and open space with several sectors and main plus side quests. Bounty hunting, and maybe trading. Anyways enjoyed the play.

For a short game, it is fun and easy enough.

Argh this is a tough one to review because, as someone else noted, there isn't a neutral button, you have to choose good or bad. I'm swaying very slightly into the bad camp sadly, mostly from missed potential, and a feeling of being sort of duped into continuing playing as it really felt like that potential was going to be met. Overall the game felt like a big long tutorial, I didn't die throughout, had the research completed quite early, and was able to buy everything from every shop. I honestly expected the game to open up into a more free form game after I'd got to the end of the story, but the credits rolled and that was it. The writing is a bit rough in places, I don't mean the puns and jokes, I respect they are part of the theme and charm on purpose. It's all just a bit kids story book level of story telling, and a bit rushed feeling. The voice acting isn't particularly great, it's not terrible, and I respect the work to actually put voice over in there, but it's a bit wooden in places, I think this may have more to do with the writing than the VA themselves in many places, hard to say. It got real laggy near the end when I went into my ship, so could do with some optimisa…

This game had so much potential, but it was released as full well before early release should have ended with glaringly obvious problems, and the creator abandoned the project. Im talking about really simple things like the fact that there is no keyboard binding listing in the game and therefore you cant bind keys or even look up what they do. im talking about easily programmed fixes like making sure info boxes dont pop up behind other info boxes and become unreadable. Im talking a complete lack of ANY optimization to where a laptop, steam deck, or cpu is screaming for mercy and ungodly hot in my lap, hands or case. the problem is that this was sold as finished and patches are completely dried up after the creator added controller support a year ago, likely as a way to make the game steamdeck friendly for one last monetary boost. because of the way the credits are typed out but, it appears as though most of the game assets and all of the voice acting were done with freelance work. this game was actually recomended on one or two articles for space ship tactics games which was a massive oversight in my opinion. there are tons of things i really like about this game, but its j…
