If you're trying to get your fill on Dragon Warrior/Quest 1 nostalgia, than this is a good likeness. Compared direction to DQ1, it's very similar, less cryptic and less grindy, the rest is upside. I've played the trials and chapters through, and it it keeps you playing for a bit with some mix-ups. I'm a simple player and there's no huge combos and skill trees, which is great for me, and if you're the same type then this is a good match for you.

I expected "Dragon Quest 1 like" randomizer. Safe to say it exceeded my expectation. The way gear works is really fun to play around with. Hunting at least 1 of each monsters to unlock traits was also great. The game is short and sweet so the randomizer doesn't feel too crazy. I can see my self playing this game every once in awhile with different modifiers. Best $9.99 I've spent.

I'm biased, but I have had a HUGE amount of fun with this one. Ir's DragonQuest I run through a randomizer, but it's a dang good randomizer: there are lots of different modes and challenges to keep things fresh, lots of possible synergies within a deep pool of possible weapon and armor abilities, and runs are quick, a jaunt from lv. 1 - 20 that succeeds in feeling swift (once you have its rhythms down). Reviewing it now because the urge to reinstall is just too great - it's just fun to attempt a randomized run and see if you can close it out. Note that the very first run will be a "vanilla" playthrough of a very authentic DQ1 experience, but the game quickly ramps up after completion of that first run unlocks the scrambling that's core to the game.
