Are you ready for an invertebratey adventure? Do you have the gumption to take on a mighty quest for the good of oodles of squidlits everywhere? If so, many trials await you as you squrp your way to victory in the squishiest of escapades!
The mechanics are simple!
After jumping, jump again to ink downwards on the enemies you encounter as you blip and squip along your merry way! Can you stop Skwit Skwot before it’s too late?
Squidlit does everything it can to be as accurate to Game Boy hardware as possible, including:
- No more than 10 8-pixel wide sprites in a line.
- No more than 40 sprites at any time.
- Four sound channels that are shared between “voices” of music and the sound effects.
- All sounds were made on a real Game Boy (using LSDJ).
- 160 x 144 pixel resolution.
- And a whopping 4 shades of... “grellow”.

The retro-revival scene is one of my favourite aspects of modern indie gaming, and in particular I adore when developers decide to dip into the nostalgia old farts like I have for the Game Boy. Squidlit's wonderful black-and-green display feels like it's right out of my childhood, and the simple story in which a squid (obviously) sets out to save their hometown is equally old-fashioned in all the good ways. Gameplay is pure platformer joy, just running and jumping and occasionally trying to bop something on the bonce, and it's all over and done with decidedly quickly. Nevertheless, if you want a taste of Game Boy goofiness without the hassle of pulling out that giant grey brick (not to mention finding enough batteries to bring it back to life) then Squidlit has you covered.2 found this helpful

Squidlit is a delightful retro-inspired platformer developed and published by Squidlit Ink that fully commits to recreating the experience of playing on the original Nintendo Game Boy. Rather than simply adopting pixel art and chiptune music for nostalgia, the game embraces the hardware's actual design limitations, resulting in an adventure that feels remarkably authentic. Players assume the role of a courageous little squid who sets out to rescue the peaceful land of Blipston from the mischievous Skwit Skwot. Although the story is intentionally simple, it is filled with quirky humor, charming characters, and playful dialogue that give the adventure a distinctive personality from beginning to end. The gameplay centers on classic side-scrolling platforming where accurate jumps, enemy encounters, and exploration drive the experience. The squid protagonist can leap across hazards while using a downward ink attack to defeat enemies, adding a small but effective combat mechanic that complements the platforming. I want to play the game in the advertisement! the actual product is janky and the graphics are weird even for a game boy style
