Story

A struggle between the Inter Galactic Corporation (a.k.a The Federation), which controls the entire galaxy, and the Rebels continues. You assume the role of John, a simple private space-pilot in the service of the Federation. Well.. the word “pilot” might be an overstatement. John’s ship AI – which he calls “Ellie” - takes almost all control of the ship. The space battles are coordinated by Motherships and “pilots” serve the mere role of the shooters (as the AI can’t ‘kill’).

IGC is about to turn the tide of the war but an accident happens. Your Mothership is blown up into pieces which makes Ellie go crazy. It puts John into hibernation and wakes him up several years later in a completely different setting. What really happened? What is the AI up to?
Will the two - John and Ellie - change the fate of the Universe?

Experience fast action, thrilling levels, spectacular explosions and lots of pew-pew-pew. Star Horizon is a reboot for the on-rails space shooter genre.

Great visuals and controls and poor auto-aim

Whether you enjoy Star Horizon depends on what expectations you bring to the game. As a child of the 80s, I experienced the development of rail shooters firsthand, like Star Fox or Rebel Assault. Star Horizon follows more the footsteps of Star Fox. You control your space fighter, aim at targets, dodge shots, but always stay on the predetermined flight path. The first time I played the game was on an iPad around 2015. Of course, you can see Star Horizons mobile origins. However, I'm evaluating the game from the perspective of a Steam Deck user. Star Horizon runs natively on Linux, at 800p with ultra settings on SD OLED, delivering smooth and consistent 90 FPS. Unfortunately, you need to tinker a bit - the controls don't work out of the box on the Steam Deck, so I had to map keyboard functions to the buttons. Specifically, Q, E, SPACE, F1, and the arrow keys to the d-pad. That was the only tinkering required, to make the game fully playable. After that, I could dive into combat. Star Horizon is a nice game for an evening or a weekend. I bought it during Winter sale for 4€ and it entertained me well. Keep in mind, it's an Indie game! All dialogues are fully voiced, and from my pers…

I personally have a great appreciation for the vision and the product. Difficult set pieces revolving around futuristic space megastructures.

This game is the definition of word mediocre. Nothing crazy good about it or horrible. It's just a mediocre game.

This game is just full of strange and annoying design choices. Plenty unavoidable damage thanks to weird enemy behaviour, shooting is clunky, story is whack. I can't recommend this to anyone, not even a casual.

Nice graphics but that's all tolerable about this game. The missions are just shooting down repeatable opponents, even "boss" fight wasn't different at all. Just pew pew pew until nothing's left, eventually crashed into your ship. This includes wooden and monotonous VA, boring story and terrible controls.
