Starlight Squad

The good: It plays well. It's cheap. It sounds good. The bad: It's a bit bland and the enemy waves repeat themselves pretty quickly. You start out underpowered, so you have to grind for your upgrades. Once you've chosen which spaceship you want to control, you can't change your choice unless you start a new game. There are no high scores. And the ugly: You have a big hitbox. It has easy achievements. It's a bit short. It has no actual waifu content. It's fine not great nor bad... maybe mid... /10

A bit on the easy side, but VERY fun to play.

Too difficult by bad design, I had high hope for this cause I like Arcade shooters and I like pixel art. One major issue is, there is no checkpoints after each level meaning after getting hit 3 times your back to the beginning of the game. You cant save your points to buy upgrades cause you need them to replenish your health from taking unavoidable hits. Dodging bullets is so unfair cause your so slow when your enemies more like 3x faster than you. The bosses are bad cause they sometimes shoots bullet patterns that cross over each other that are impossible to avoid.

Underwhelming euro-shmup that falls into nearly every pitfall of the style: peashooter weapons, overly long levels with repetitive enemy waves, poor balance exacerbated by the upgrade shop system — at least there's no movement inertia but there [i]is[/i] eurotechno music! Now, it's apparent from the get-go that it's a euro-shmup and I can enjoy one now and then, but this is just a really cheap and underwhelming example of one. Backgrounds are very sparse, enemy designs are as bland and their behaviours, and overall it feels more like a sketch of game than a fully fleshed out one. The game isn't [i]broken[/i] or anything, and I've certainly played worse in the genre, but you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

A fun shoot’em up with strong retro vibes. You have to play with the CRT filter on. Great boss fights and solid progression.

I wasn't expecting it, but I got hooked. The gameplay loop where you collect stars to buy upgrades is addicting. I'm almost maxing out the blue ship, and I can't stop.
