Streets Ablaze

Fun game. Reminds me some old games on 3DM, simple but fun. I kinda like these retro style games. But there is one thing I dont like which is the player movement, I cant really aim at enemy sometimes, maybe making a 360 degree movement for the character is better. And the slow-motion when I am punching enemies are really great, thats one point I like it.

First off, the comic book styled intro was very cool looking (the art style for these sections are awesome). It immediately set the vibe for the game. The music is very dramatic and cool too, I like it. The main combat of the game is overall simple, but I found it still pretty entertaining even after playing it for 30 minutes. I wish there were more explanations as to how to do the different combo attacks, other than punching and picking up / throwing weapons (In the beginning I was struggling to use finishers, but once I got it down the whole fighting system became even more enjoyable). Once I got to the second level, the item system became much more intuitive and fun. I didn’t think to punch boxes, I assumed they were only decorative, but once I accidentally did, I learned that I could actually heal. I do like the inclusion of the cars and trains serving as “stage hazards”, it added more to the movement and pacing of the combat. The only problem I ever had when fighting was that sometimes the enemy characters would walk out of my range of movement (like being far away or out of bounds), meaning I couldn’t hit them or walk in front of them to do so at all. I think ultimately this game's biggest weakness is it's short length. It can be beaten in a singular playthrough, but I still feel like the game has a lot more potential to be further expanded into a full game. Otherwise, the combat is fun to engage with, and the overall gameplay loop was quite enjoyable.

Great game, Needs to be more polished, But a great presentation overall, It sucks that the developers haven't touched it in seven years, Wasted potential.

The game was an overall pretty standard fighting game. I found the use of 3D in a psuedo-2D sort of map kind of creative, and I liked the animation of the character selection screen at the beginning. I also like the slow motion finishing moves and the background of the game. Unfortunately, the cons of the game outweigh the pros. The game itself was hard to understand, as sometimes I wasn't sure if I was hitting the enemies properly. I'm not sure if it was me or the game, but I found I could not move the camera around, which was a little annoying because it was hard to gauge where to move inside of the game to attack the enemies properly or to pick up items. Sometimes my player character had to move to the edge of the camera in order for the camera to move, which was not a great experience visually. I haven't played through all the levels so I'm not sure if the other levels are better or something, but my experience with the first level was a little frustrating. Being a street fighting game there's not too much of a need for a storyline either, but it would've been nice. And I would've also liked to see a couple more moves besides just spamming F to finish the enemies.
