Surviving West

Surviving West is an intriguing blend of survival sandbox, frontier simulation, and light storytelling set in a stylized interpretation of the American Wild West, developed and published by Nemo Studios. Rather than leaning entirely into cinematic shootouts or outlaw power fantasies, the game approaches the setting from a grounded survival perspective—placing the player in an unforgiving, sparsely populated wilderness where thirst, hunger, weather, and isolation pose just as much danger as bandits or wildlife. From the moment you step into the dusty expanse, the game communicates that success isn’t guaranteed. Resources are limited, travel is taxing, and progression must be earned through patience, adaptation, and smart decision-making. The western frontier becomes not a mythologized playground, but a harsh and indifferent landscape that demands respect. I can see what the devs are going for with this game, but for mine, casual and laid back shouldn't mean gathering a rediculous amount of resources just to craft basic items. I get it, slow, paced etc. Nope, too slow for my mind, thus I can't recommend.

The developer seems to be a generally kind person. I do wish nothing but the best for them in the future. However, this game just isn't much of a game. It's a survival sandbox game that lacks a tutorial, has an asset map with no real identity or identifying features, no compass, and basically only the barebones features necessary for a survival game. The graphics have a style that isn't terrible, but it makes finding your way anywhere more difficult than it should be since everything blends together. There's just not much of a game here. It seems to be more of a learning project than a legitimate pay-to-play title. No idea if the server is still online so buy at your own risk.
