Synthetic Blood: Mind Shift is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. For me, this game was unplayable beyond the initial dialog for the tutorial, as whatever keys I pressed didn't result in any movement from the 2D retro pixel sprite that you control in the game. I remember a time when developers would test their games before dumping them on Steam, but those days are apparently long gone. If you can get the game to work, it's a pretty poorly made 2D retro pixel platformer/shooter game with a sci-fi theme. You get brain damage from dying. You get brain damage from playing the game. If you play for too long, you sustain enough brain damage that you think it's ok to dump untested 2D retro pixel platformers on Steam. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. To take a break from dota I've decided to try this game. It was kinda fun + Interesting story and funny jokes + Dynamic fighting system + Replayable - Arts close to average Music is okay but nothing special Overall 7/10

I know that there are a number of reviews that are here praising it for what it is, but I have a bit of an issue with the game. The BIG problem here that I see is that this game is almost an exact copy of Katana Zero. I cannot IMAGINE that this wasn't done on purpose but let me break it down: 1) Both games have an almost exactly the same fighting style. You have one main attack with a sword and enemies generally die in one hit (few exceptions with stronger enemies). 2) Both games you have to start each segment over again if you die, with the story progressing a room at a time. 3) Both games share the same physics, with a dash and wall climbing. 4) Both games have a projectile reflection technique with the sword. The game has its own pros and cons and in my opinion the price is fair. At least I enjoyed the story and gameplay for that amount of money.
